LIVING THE HIGH LIFE

H ave you ever dreamed of living in a top-floor flat?
There are several pros and cons to think about
before moving to a sky-high residence.

One scientifically proven advantage is that the top floor is
warmer in winter. 1   > <  Just turn down the thermostat
and let the downstairs neighbours keep you warm. Also
true is that the higher up you live, the brighter it is.

Of course, an advantage in winter can become
a disadvantage in summertime. While those living on lower
floors are feeling cool, your place may feel like an oven.
Another advantage is that a top-floor flat can be the
quietest in your block. At least you won’t hear the sounds
of pets and children running around over your head, or
early risers falling out of bed at 5 a.m. 3   > <  You’d be
surprised what your downstairs neighbours can hear, so
consider carefully before you start to exercise or hoover
the floors first thing in the morning or late at night.
One more plus of living high up is the fact that you
are safer from break-ins. Most burglars are looking
for a quick way in and out, so the lower floors are
ideal for them. Living higher up can protect you from
other dangers as well. For example, floods, which can
definitely cause damage on lower floors, probably won’t

There is one more thing to consider before you decide to
live in a top-floor apartment. If you’re afraid of heights,

look out of the windows?
