MEMORIES IN A SHOEBOX

So we all have our shoeboxes right? Each of them containing different types of shoes, if you may.
Some shoeboxes have those shoes that we all like to wear ever so often. While SOME shoes, we’d
rather leave untouched, either because they bite, or you just grew out of them.

We all collect our memories in much the same way as children accumulate their random possessions
in a shoebox. The most beautiful thing about memories, though, is the fact that you just can’t do
without them can you? (Yes, both the ones we like to re-visit ever so often AND the ones we try to
block out because they “bite”).

Memories are an important cognitive phenomenon. They are the tapes we have of our past without
which there would be no past. Only the present. Even the present would not be our own, would it?
Because there would no concept of self identity. We would wake up each morning in a continuous
state of doubt that we are and would be unable to accomplish any process that requires us to delve
into our past experiences. We would therefore be perpetual beginners at everything!

The objective of this blog is to therefore ensure we do take care of our memories. Because they give
us our past, the people in our lives and define who we are. The good ones teach us to move on to
greater things and the bad ones just teach us how to.

So in the words of Lois Lowry,

“The worst part of holding on to a memory is not the pain of it. It is the loneliness of it. Memories
need to be shared”
I DO have a lot of memories in MY shoebox  and they ARE random. Stories, poems, reviews,
goings on and laments! So do follow, do comment and do share your shoebox as well 
