"Educating Peter" is about Peter the main character of the video to
enlightening and informative look into the life of a child affected by Downs Syndrome and faces many obstacles whilst attending a regular elementary school. His loud vocal outbursts continually interrupt lessons, and he frequently hits, kicks and shoves his confusedness and it is scaring his classmates. It seems misguided at best that the welfare of this one needy child should come at the expense of others who are forced to deal with Peter’s unpredictability, or that the teacher must spend extra time with Peter--not on academics, but simply trying to integrate him into the classroom routine. As weeks past by he was having fewer outbursts and the students were beginning to work better with him. She tries to hold back and not get involved with something the students should handle on their own. She didn't think third graders were able to do this, but they can. She gets involved with a tackling situation and uses a counting method to get Peter back in his seat. When this doesn't work she decides to approach him later. She asks why he went over and bothered the students. Peter says he wanted them to put their things away. The teacher asks if tackling was a nice thing to do and asks if he would like to be bothered like this, he says no. Peter apologizes to the student for tackling him and gives him a hug. One little girl says, “He changed, because we changed. . . . You think you’re teaching Peter things, but Peter’s teaching you things.
