Added to this they are harmonizing colours gentle, sof, subtle and create aresifull effects. Carissa carandas a member of Apocynacese has been used as dye source. Inthe present work the use of Pomegranate rind ( Punica granatwn L.) as single natural mordant and in binary combination with alum, i, icon and harda as other mordant vas tused, leaf extract produced very good range of reddish brown orange brown and beige colour on cotton and dyed cotton can withstand when subjected for various fastness tess. Ithas soothing effect and aesthetic value, It can use to generate employment especially to rural folk, The use of natural dyes in textile applications is growing day by day, These colours may find beneficial to the fabrie manufacturers and ultimately to fashion designers, who always search forthe value added products Natural dyes, when used have many limitations with respect to wide range of shades, fastness, brilliancy of shade and reproducibility. However, when used along with metal mordents these dyes produce bright and fast colours. The restrictions to the use of metal salts have been put by famous ‘German Bar, Taken this into consideration the vegetable tannin as a natural mordant was selected. The major source of tannin selected for the present study is Pomegrante rind in combination with harda tannin as a natural mordant and Alum, Iron and Tin as metal mordants where there is no upper limit for them hence they are safe for complexing, and mordanting. Kharbade and Mishra (1999) reported 18. 27% Preparation of dye materials : The leaves of Carissa carandas ‘were collected from the near by area in the month of October. The leaves were washed thoroughly to remove dirt particles, fungus andinsects ifseen), Preparation of dye extract for selected Dye : Washed leaves ‘were taken forthe extraction Leaves were cut into the small pieces and water was added to make 1 : 50 material liquor ratios. The extraction was carried out at boiling temperature where initial temperature was 40°C and slowly it was raised up to the boiling. Extraction was carried out for 4 hours, Extract was filtered and keptready for dyeing as dye solution. ‘Scouring - 100 % cotton was Scoured to improve dye affinity. Mordanting :- In the present study the emphasis was given to vegetable mordant where Pomegranate rind (vegetable tannin) was considered as a sole mordant and alum.
