1 Introduction
This document is applicable to LTE FDD mode.
This section describes the changes between versions of the product, including three types
of changes:
Technical changes: technical and related parameter changes between two versions.
Other changes: description and structure changes between versions, including content
optimization and supplementation.
2 Function Description
2.1 Background
With the rapid development of mobile broadband services, how to increase network
capacity on the basis of ensuring coverage for LTE has fallen into a bottleneck. Traditional
methods of capacity expansion mainly include increasing carrier resources and building
new sites, but they have the following drawbacks:
1. Due to limited spectrum resources, some operators do not have additional spectrum
resources and cannot expand their network capacity by adding carriers.
2. It is difficult to obtain sites, and there are no suitable sites for deployment.
To solve the problems above, Smart Space-Division Cell Group (SSCG) solution is
introduced. It applies the cell-level spatial division multiplexing technology to implement
network expansion, which can effectively increase single station and regional capacity.
And it is one of the important methods for solving the bottleneck of network capacity.
When the operator's frequency band is limited and site acquisition is difficult, this solution
can effectively improve spectrum efficiency and the overall cell capacity without increasing
the number of base station sites, thus reducing the capacity expansion workload and
complexity, and is beneficial to the network smooth evolution.
The basic idea of SSCG is to use Smart Space-Division Cell Group containing N (N<=4)
cells of the same frequency to cover the coverage range of traditional macro stations.
Cells in a Smart Space-Division Cell Group use the same antenna transceiver group, and
each cell has its own and complete cell attributes. The SSCG beam weight can be
designed to adjust the coverage range of each cell, so that it can flexibly adapt to different
user distribution situations.
As shown below, there are two typical SSCG coverage scenarios. One is to implement
space division only in the horizontal direction, and the other is to implement space division
in the horizontal and vertical directions. Both scenarios are 4-cell space division. Among
them, each cell after spatial division adopts MIMO technology to further improve the
[1]
system capacity. MIMO technology is detailed in FDD DL MIMO Feature Guide .

3 Technical Description
SSCG supports the configuration of different space division modes of a smart space-
division cell group (which is configured by SmartSpaceDivisionCGLTE.spaceDivMode, it
can be set to “horizontal spatial division” and “horizontal vertical spatial division”). As
shown in Figure 3-1, the SSCG in different spatial division mode are described as Mode
x y, where x indicates the number of inner-circle spatial division cells, and y indicates the
number of outer-circle spatial division cells. Based on the user distribution, you can select
the appropriate spatial division form among the six modes as shown in Figure 3-1. The
specific configuration mode and meaning are shown in Table 3-1. Among them, Space
Division Mode of a Smart Space-Division Cell Group
(SmartSpaceDivisionCGLTE.spaceDivMode) is configured to Horizontal Spatial Division, and
Number of Cells in a Smart Space-Division Cell Group
(SmartSpaceDivisionCGLTE.cellNumInSSCG) is configured to 4 by default. In a commercial
scenario, the Space Division Mode of a Smart Space-Division Cell Group and the
Number of Cells in a Smart Space-Division Cell Group need to be flexibly configured
according to user distribution.

Smart Space-Division Cell Group
When configuring SSCG, based on the user distribution in the sector, Number of Tx
Antenna Port in Cell, Mapping of Antenna Port and Antenna Channel, Space
Division Mode of a Smart Space-Division Cell Group, Number of Cells in a Smart
Space-Division Cell Group, select the [H, V, A, T] of each spatial division cell. [H, V, A,
T] means horizontal lobe width, vertical lobe width, azimuth angle and down tilt angle
respectively. These parameters are used to determine the Broadcast Weight Index of a
Smart Space-Division Cell Group, and the appropriate index configured can be used to
obtain a better sector flow gain. The fields in the Broadcast Weight Index of a Smart
Space-Division Cell Group are described as follows:
MAP: represents Mapping of Antenna Port and Antenna Channel. It supports three
configurations: MAP0101, MAP0213 and MAP0202;
The values of P, MAP, SDM and CellNum in the Broadcast Weight Index of a Smart
Space-Division Cell Group correspond to the Number of Tx Antenna Port in Cell, the
Mapping of Antenna Port and Antenna Channel, the Space Division Mode of a Smart
Space-Division Cell Group and the Number of Cells in a Smart Space-Division Cell
Group. For the corresponding relationships, refer to Table 3-3:
In the commercial scenario, the broadcast weight index of SSCG can be configured
flexibly based on the user distribution.

After the SSCG function is enabled, the PUCCH resources of each cell in SSCG need to
be coordinated to avoid the degradation of PUCCH performance due to mutual
interference between different spatial division cells.
For PUCCH, three coordination modes are designed to adapt to different scenarios.
for scenarios with serious interference between SSCG cells. It consumes more RBs
on the PUCCH, resulting in the decrease of the number of available RBs on the
PUSCH.
According to the Smart Space-Division Cell Group ID, the number of cells in a smart
space division cell group is determined, and the resources of each cell are coordinated to
avoid the same resource positions occupied by different space division cells and thereby
interfere with each other.
For uplink and downlink resource allocation, four methods are designed:
SSCG cell 0 allocates resources in order from low frequency to high frequency;
SSCG cell 1 allocates resources in order from high frequency to low frequency.

resources in order from high frequency to low frequency;
SSCG cell 3 preferentially starts with RBs at 1/2 of the bandwidth, and allocates
resources in order from low frequency to high frequency.

Use the scenario where the Number of Cells in a Smart Space-Division Cell Group is 4
as an example to show how to enable the FMM SSCG.
First, establish four FDD cells. Then, in the RAN Configuration Management window, click
MO Content, select [Managed Element->eNodeB CU->LTE->E-UTRAN FDD Cell].
Select the record to be modified, and click , set The Switch of MM Mode to Open[1],
as shown in the Figure below. Click “Save” button to save the modified Data as shown in
figures below.
Note: The following 11 parameters of the four FDD cells must be the same:
- DL System Bandwidth
- UL System Bandwidth
- Switching Mode

set Smart Space-Division Cell Group ID, which should be unique in the
eNodeB.
Set Cell List in a Smart Space-Division Cell Group to select FMM cells that
form Smart Space-Division Cell Group.
Then, click “Save” button to save and click “Data Activation” button to synchronize the
modified data.
Note: The FMM cell cannot exist independently of the Smart Space-Division Cell Group.
That is, a FMM cell must be referenced by a Cell List in a Smart Space-Division Cell
Group.
When configuring Broadcast Weight Index of a Smart Space-Division Cell Group, need
the configuration information of "Number of Tx Antenna Port in Cell" and "Mapping of
Antenna Port and Antenna Channel".
Select [Managed Element -> eNodeB DU -> LTE -> Cell portion resource -> LTE
In heavy-load scenarios, the number of RBs available for a Smart Space-Division Cell
Group is N times of the bandwidth (N is the number of cells in a Smart Space-Division
Cell Group), thus effectively improving system capacity.
In a scenario with heavy loads, inter-beam interference may cause the SINR, CQI, and
other indicators to deteriorate.
Note: When querying KPIs from the RAN, you can select the cells in the same Smart
Space-Division Cell Group to form a group, then the original cell-level counters can be
summarized and displayed by group.
