Environmental problems in Peru

Deforestation in Peru
The feeling and burning of forests for the development of
agricultural activities on unsuitable land is the main cause
of deforestation in Peru.

Mining
The extraction of gold in the Amazon areas involves the deforestation of
tens of thousands of hectares, with a huge number of illegal operations.
This mining contaminates the areas with high concentrations of heavy
metals, which end up in the fauna and even in human beings.

Urban Sprawl
In the absence of efficient and environmentally friendly waste collection and
disposal systems, they pollute the atmosphere, water and soil, causing health
problems for their inhabitants and significant environmental damage.

Overfishing
Its poor management negatively affects these resources, which are vital
for the country.
As with mining and logging, there is an excess of activity, much of it
illegal, that does not respect sustainability measures and produces high
rates of pollution, in this case from the marine canning and fishmeal
industries.

Industrial Agriculture
This industry also implies a high demand for fossil fuels in its
machinery, and pollutes and degrades soil and water while
contributing to the deforestation of the Amazonia.
They have ended up threatening the ecosystem by increasing
greenhouse gases and therefore harming climate change and
the well-being of the earth.

Lack of awareness
The problem is made especially important by the large
number of animal and plant species that are imminently
threatened by this growth model.
