POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY

1. Mismatched brake material on primary and second- Replace with matched lining material.
ary shoes.

2. Loose lining on shoe. Reset rivets or tighten bolts.


Replace bonded shoes that have broken weld.

3. Unchamfered brake lining heel and toe. Chamfer the lining.

4. Glazed lining. Sand off the glaze.

5. Oil or grease contaminated lining. Clean or replace lining.


Check the source of contamination.

6. Stretched or fatigued shoe return springs. Replace with good quality, heavy-duty springs meeting
manufacturer’s specifications.

7. Worn camshaft bushings. Replace bushings.

8. Worn anchor pin bushings. Replace worn parts.

9. Flat spots on the shoe roller or camshaft. Inspect and replace worn parts.

10. Poorly adjusted or worn slack adjuster parts. Adjust or replace worn parts (clevis pin, splined connec-
tion, etc.)

11. Unequal push-rod travel on brake chambers. Readjust slack adjusters for equal travel on the same
axle.

12. Loose brake drum bolts (when used). Retighten

13. Loose wheel bearing adjustment. Readjust to specifications.

14. Uneven brake pressures between diaphragms. Check air lines to be sure none are kinked. Check for
other causes (leaks, etc.) which might contribute to
unequal brake pressures between diaphragms.
