APPLICATION

Instructions: Watch the documentary, I- witness: ‘Lupang Hiram’, dokumentaryo ni Atom

Araullo| Full Episode. Answer the following given questions.

1. What is the documentary all about?

Answer:

The documentary is all about the livelihood, education and the sacrifices of our indigenous
people especially the Dumagats.

2. Given what happened during and after the construction of Angat Dam, what implications did it
cause on the indigenous people who originally living in the area?

Answer:

I think the implications that caused to the indigenous people during/after the construction of
Angat Dam was their livelihood and their home. Because of the construction of Angat Dam all of
them were affected and struggled. The natural resources as the major source of their livelihood
were affected by the construction of Angat Dam and they did not receive any amount or
incentives coming from the income of Angat Dam that millions of Filipino benefited on this.

It is unfair to the part of our indigenous people since they sacrificed a lot just to help the other
Filipinos. In my own opinion the Government should do a livelihood program for our IPs
therefore they will not suffered extremely in their everyday life, give them a proper shelter and
education as well, but they did not give importance to it, they only think their personal interest,
they did not mind the lives our IPs on how to improve it. It is sad to say that the land of our IPs
are rich in natural resources but they are still poor and suffering extreme poverty. I felt disgusted
to the Government officials who did not take action to this situation and they are not responsible
to their actions.

3. Do you agree that indigenous people are indolent and ignorant which caused them to live a
poor life? Why?

Answer: NO, because as far as I know our IPs are hardworking and responsible for the needs of
their families just to fed their empty stomach. They are living a simple life and contented of what
they had. But because of Government’s business and for personal interest as well, our IPs were
fully affected to this.

In my own opinion, they are not ignorant and it is not the reason for being poor because they
can survive and can live a simple and happy life. The true ignorance are those who are educated
but they did not used their knowledge on how to help our IPs, instead they abused it and they are
the reason for the struggle of our IPs. They used their power and took advantage to our IPs just
because they are easily manipulated and lack of education and our IPs had no no choice but to
follow the regulations being implemented.

4. After watching the documentary, what realizations have you made knowing the situation of
the indigenous people living near the area of Angat Dam?

Answer: I have a lot of realizations to the lives and situations of our IPs after watching the
documentary. I realize that we need to give importance and attention to our IPs since they are
struggling too much poverty, lack of education, far from health access and civilizations. They are
also ignored and being discriminated and they do not deserve that kind of treatment. We need to
appreciate and thank to them because they sacrificed their land for the betterment of our fellow
Filipinos.

I really felt pity to them because if I compare our lives to them, we are living an easy life we
are free to do whatever we need to do, unlike them they are struggling too much and they did
not experience the things we had like watching television, listening to music, using gadgets and
a lot more. So, I hope and prayed that our Government should take actions to their situations like
giving them a proper shelter, clothing, proper education, and most importantly the livelihood
program for them. We need to respect, love and give value to our IPs since they are also humans
like us they need a proper treatment they deserve to be happy and enjoy of what God has given
to us
