Assessment No. 6.B and C
B. Solve the following.
a. Find PF, if 𝐴𝐵 = 56 and 𝑃𝐵 = 35 Given: AB = 56 PB = 35 Find: PF? Solution: We know that the perpendicular drawn from center of circle to the chord is always bisect the chord. Therefore, AF=FB= ½ (56) = 28 USING PYTHAGORAS THEOREM In triangle PFB P B2 = F B2 + P F 2 (35 ¿ ¿2 = (28 ¿ ¿2 + P F 2 1225 = 784 + P F 2 P F 2 = 1225-784 P F 2=441 √ P F 2 = √441 PF = 21, Hence PF is 21 units. b. Find PB, if 𝑃𝐹 = 10 and 𝐴𝐵 = 48 Given: 𝑃𝐹 = 10 𝐴𝐵 = 48 Find: PB? Solution: AF=FB= ½ (48) = 24 USING PYTHAGORAS THEOREM In triangle PFB P B2 = F B2 + P F 2 P B2 = (24 ¿ ¿2 + (10¿2 P B2=¿576+100 P B2=¿676 √ P B2 = √676 PB = 26, Hence PB is 26 units.
c. Find PB, if 2(𝑃𝐹) = 𝑃𝐵 and 𝐴𝐵 = 16√3
Given: 2(𝑃𝐹) = 𝑃𝐵 𝐴𝐵 = 16√3 Find: PB? Solution: If AB = 16√3, and FB = 8√3. Since, FB is twice the length of AB, we can assume that it is a 30-60-90 special right triangle. The ratio of the sides of a 30-60-90 special right triangle is as shown:
If x=8, therefore the sides are 8√3, 8 and 16 respectively. So, PB is equal to 16 units.
d. Find AC, if 𝑃𝐹 = 𝐹𝐶, 2(𝑃𝐹) = 𝐴𝐵 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑃𝐵 = 14√2.
Given: 𝑃𝐹 = 𝐹𝐶, 2(𝑃𝐹) = 𝐴𝐵 𝑃𝐵 = 14√2
Find: AC? Solution: C. Create an artwork using the concept of circles. (20 pts.)
