The novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is about an African American family the Logans that live in the

south in the 1930s. They experience racism and poverty and are in danger of losing their land. Roll of Thunder should not be included in next years sixth grade curriculum. Roll of Thunder should not be included in next years sixth grade curriculum because; it uses bad grammar and dialogue. An example of that is We aint got one.(pg. 14) This shows the usage of bad grammar because right now people dont use the word aint. This might teach readers that it is okay to use that word in school. Another example of bad dialogue is whose little n***** is this!(pg. 111) This shows bad dialogue because, this word is very inappropriate. Readers might think it is okay to use this word in public since it is mentioned in the novel. Ah, you is a sweet thing Cassie (pg.179). You is is not the right way to put that. This novel will teach readers that it is okay to use improper grammar. Another reason why this should not be included in next years sixth grade curriculum is because it shows violence. An example of violence is and struck me hard across the face (pg. 180). This shows violence and readers might think that it is fun to do this. It might also be a bad influence. Another example is I dunno. His legs busted up by the wagon and hes shot.(pg.213). this might show readers that it is fun shooting people. It is also a bad influence on readers. The last example is Mr. Morrison pick up one of them men like he wasnt nothing but a sack of chicken feathers and fling him down on the ground so hard it mustve broke his back. (pg. 215). This is again an extremely bad influence on readers. Readers might think that it is fun to do this and might start doing this too. The last reason why this book should not be included in next years sixth grade curriculum is because it shows imagery. The imagery this novel shows is not good imagery but mostly violent imagery. An example is pulled his leg back and kicked T.J.s swollen stomach (pg. 253) if somebody imagines this it will not give them a good feeling. Another example is Claude was hauled out, knocked to the ground and kicked.( pg. 252) this

is also violent imagery. The last example is she was caught by the arm and flung so feriously against the house ( pg. 253). So, again, this shows violent imagery. Who wants to imagine someone being flung so against the house. The novel Roll of Thunder should not be included in next years sixth grade curriculum. This novel uses bad grammar and dialogue, has violence, another reason why people might think the novel is good is because, of imagery but they are wrong. Roll of Thunder will not be am appealing book for readers who read it.
