INTRODUCTION
The Santiago’s way (also called French way) is a pilgrimage route with more than 700km
begins in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and ends in Santiago de Compostela. The Santiago’s
way has 32 stages approximately.
The legend tells us that the dead body of Santiago (an Apostol) was discovered by a
shepherd (Pelayo) in a field on Galicia during the reign of the King Alfonso II. And that’s why
the Santiago’s way is known as Santiago’s way.
The symbol of the Santiago’s way is the scallop shell. That’s way because a lot of
pilgrimages would pick a scallop shell on the beach to show the other peoples that they
completed the Santiago’s way and the walked to the ocean.

DIARY

Dear diary, today I’m started the Santiago’s way in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-

Port and I want to get to Santiago de Compostela . And I’m going to tell
you what I’ve done in some of the Santiago’s way’s stages

Castellanos de Castro to Castrojeriz . (05-03-1000)

When we arrived in Castellanos de Castro we spend the night
in a little inn near the San Pedro’s church.
We get up when the roosters sing and we had breakfast. A half
hour later we started walking to Castrojeriz . We visited the
San Antón’s monastery that was on the way and the we finally

7
arrive and we spend the night in another inn. In the morning
we visited San Juan’s church and I did a little draw of it .

Mansilla de las Mulas to León . (14-03-1000)

We slept in an inn in Mansilla de las Mulas and in the
morning we start the road to León . Already in León, we visited
the cathedral and the Basilic of San Isidoro, which they just
build. We spend the night in a big inn and we slept really well.

Monte do Gozo to Santiago de Compostela . (27-03-1000)

We did the last stage in an hour and we visited the Santiago de
Compostela’s cathedral. Finally, we finished!! We walked to the
beach to catch a shell and celebrate that we finally finished.
