To the editor of dawn newspaper,

Inflation and COVID 19 has bought nothing to Pakistan but only loss. As stated by the finance
ministry, the price growth will continue and that is not in favor of more than half the population of
Pakistan. Food inflation, power and gas inflation and unemployment has punished low-middle
income and has bought poor people into worst ever situations.

During my education life, I have studied that as demand increases, price decrease but why this is not
in the case of Pakistan. I believe for Pakistan; the statement is as demand increase price also
increase. During PTI’s government starting from FY18, Pakistan witnessed with increasing rate of
poverty, which is around 28% increase in poverty. This increase in poverty shows how much people
are lacking to fulfill their basic need and how would they fulfill their needs which cost them more
than what they hardly earn.

It is evident that the prices went low for the first time in January FY21 after the arrival of PTI
government, but seems like Pakistan wasn’t ready for this deflation. However, prices took four steps
forwards, leaving people behind. In February FY21, prices jumped from 5.7pc to 8.7pc.

During this hard time where not only Pakistan but whole world is dealing with COVID 19, the
Government should take immediate steps for the economy of Pakistan, as already Pakistan is not in
a good state and that these situations are making it worse. Either the government should introduce
monetary policies, fiscal policies or exchange rate policies. These reforms should benefit to low-
middle income people because before COVID 19 or after, they are the ones getting adverse affected.
If the situation remains same, Pakistan will get deeper in the hole of danger.
