As Algeria is subjected to earthquake due principally to the seismotectonic setting of the Maghreb
region, the authorities have devoted particular efforts for seismic risk prevention by creating special
organization dealing with seismology and earthquake engineering, installing seismic observation
systems and elaborating a code of earthquake resistant design of structure in order to reduce the
consequences of this natural disaster. Hence, many organizations have been created and many
professionals have been trained.
