WEEK/TONIC 23

TOPIC: THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM

TEXT: ACTS 2:1-21
OBJECTIVE: To establish the significance of the Spirit's Baptism in Christian walk

INTRODUCTION
The Holy Spirit is the third person in Trinity. It is obvious that water baptism is the physical
religious ceremony and those who participate in it have tendency to sin thereafter. But those
who experience the Holy Spirit baptism are circumcised in their heart, like the Apostles on the
day of Pentecost and John Wesley after the Aldersgate experience. The work and person of the
Holy Spirit cannot be substituted by anything else in the believer's life. Without the Holy Spirit,
failure in Christian living and ministry is imminent.

POINTS FOR CONVERSATION

1. What is the significance of the Holy Spirit baptism in the life of a child of God? (Acts 1:7-
8, John14:16-17)

2. Highlight the difference between Water baptism and the Holy Spirit baptism.(Luke 3:1-3,
Matthew 3:4-11).

3. Enumerate some of the benefits of the Holy Spirit baptism. (Acts 3:1-13, Gal 5:22-23,
Acts 2: 17-21).

CONCLUSION
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for every child of God (Act 2:39). Those who have received the
Holy Spirit baptism are given power to witness and are led by the Spirit of God. Have you
received this baptism? If not, take a step of courage today and surrender your life to Jesus as
you advance in your spiritual race.

MEMORY VERSE: Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
end of the earth"

ACTION POINT: Believe and resolve to experience the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
