WEEK/TONIC 22

TOPIC:THE ASCENSION OFJESUS

TEXT: ACTS 1:1-11
OBJECTIVE To enhance the faith of Christians on the ascended Lord.

INTRODUCTION
Forty days after Jesus' resurrection, His ascension took place. Ascension describes Jesus'
transition from earth to heaven after his death and resurrection. Through this transition, Jesus
was exalted to the right hand of the Father in heaven. This however made it possible for the
eyewitnesses to see both the resurrected Christ on earth and the eternal king returning to
heaven to rule on his throne at God's right hand.
As the disciples were watching him ascend, two Angels dressed in white robes
beside them asked why they were looking into the sky and told them that, this same Jesus who
has been taken from you into heaven, will come back the same way you have seen him go into
heaven". (Acts 1:11).

POINTS FOR CONVERSATION

1. Highlight the importance of Jesus' ascension in the life of a true believer.
(Romans 8:34, 1 John 2:1, Heb 7:25)
2. Discuss the assurance of Salvation with emphasis on the connection with the ascension of
Jesus Christ. (Heb 6:19-20, Philippians 2:9-11)
3 ldentify the expectations of every believer as contained in Acts 1:1-11.

CONCLUSION
After the ascension, the Lord Jesus returned to heaven to serve as Advocate and Intercessor at
God's right hand. His mission on earth had been accomplished.
It is therefore expedient for all believers not to be idle, but be committed and watch passionately
for the second coming of the Lord.

MEMORY VERSE: Acts 1: 9 "Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He
was taken up and a cloud received Him out of their sight"

ACTION POINT: Be well-grounded in your faith in Christ for a continued fellowship with the
