 Analyzing the connection of Peace Education to History

Theme: “Rizal’s Pathway to a Culture of Peace ”

The third and fourth year criminology students

Purpose of this Forum:

The purpose of this forum is for the third year criminology students to gain a better
grasp of the need of fostering peace and tolerance and the necessity of learning from the past
by studying Rizal's life and work in order to create a peaceful path in practicing policing
profession. Since Dr. Jose Rizal's life and works embody ideals of non-violent resistance to
injustice and tolerance to the plights of the underprivileged and marginalized, the lessons of
history should be learned in order to prevent violence-ridden history from recurring over.

Thus, This forum will discuss and analyze the importance of educating for peace from
Rizal’s life and works, and share reflections from the Rizal’s works (the Noli Me Tangere
and El Filibusterismo) as a form of peaceful uprising in the Philippine History.
