THE EFFECT OF THINK TALK WRITE (TTW) STRATEGY TOWARD

STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE SECOND GRADE


STUDENTS OF MTS DARUL AMAN ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL IN
ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy
toward students‟ vocabulary mastery at the second grade students of MTs Darul Aman
Islamic Boarding School in academic year 2020/2021. This research was classified as a
quasi-experimental research. The researcher used class VIII B as the experiment class and
VIII A as the control class. The experiment class was taught by the Think Talk Write
(TTW) strategy while the control class was taught by the conventional method. It
involved 63 students from those two classes. The instrument used to collect the
research‟s data was tests consist of pre-test and post-test. The researcher found that there
was a significant effect between the students‟ score in pre-test and post-test in the
experiment class. The average score of post-test was higher than the pre-test in the
experiment class. It is shown that the pre-test average score was 50.38 and the post-test
average score was 61.03. While the pre-test average score of the control class was 44.38
and the post-test was 42.25. Based on the result of this research, it is shown that a
significant improvement happened only in the experiment class. In addition, the value of
the t-test was 3.5 and it was higher than t-table 1.9 at the level of significant 0,05% with
the degree of freedom (df)=61. Base on the result of this research, the researcher
concluded that the use of the Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy has a significant effect on
students‟ vocabulary mastery at the second-grade students of MTs Darul Aman Islamic
Boarding School in the academic year 2020/2021.
