MRI LUMBO-SACRAL SPINE

Protocol: Sagittal and Axial T1 and T2 Wt sequences. Coronal T1 and STIR sequence.Screening
sagittal T2 Wt sequence through whole spine

Clinical details: Lower back pain

Observations:

Normal lordosis of spine noted.

Multilevel anterior vertebral body osteophytes seen.

Rest of the vertebral bodies show normal marrow signal characteristics. Appendages are normal.

No evidence of osteolysis / osteosclerosis.

No evidence of spondylolysis / listhesis.

Articular facets and facet joints are normal.

Conus is normal in size and signal intensity.

No extradural/intradural/ intramedullary mass lesion.

No pre or para vertebral soft tissue mass lesion seen.

AP spinal canal dimension at the Pedicular levels are as follows:

L1 level : 1.48 cm

L2 level : 1.45 cm

L3 level : 1.22 cm

L4 level : 1.42 cm

L5 level : 1.16 cm

Intervertebral discs:

Multilevel disc desiccation changes noted, as evidenced by loss of normal hyperintensity on T2 Wt

images.

L2-3 and L3-4: Bilateral paracentral protrusion noted with resultant mild anterior thecal sac compression,
bilateral neural foramina narrowing with impingement of its exiting nerve roots.

L4-5 and L5-S1: Broad based disc bulge noted with resultant mild anterior thecal sac compression,
bilateral neural foramina narrowing with impingement of its exiting nerve roots.

Rest of the intervertebral discs are normal.

Rest of the dural sac, nerve roots, neural foramina and spinal canal are normal.

Screening sagittal T2 Wt sequence through cervico-dorsal spine showed:

Normal lordosis of spine noted.

Multilevel anterior vertebral body osteophytes seen.
Multilevel disc desiccation changes noted in the cervical and upper dorsal region, as
evidenced by loss of normal hyperintensity on T2 Wt images.
At C3-4 to C6-7: Posterior osteophyte disc complex coupled with broad based bulge with
resultant mild anterior thecal sac compression.
C7-D1 to D2-3, D7-8 and D8-9: Ligamentum flavum hypertrophy seen with mild
posterior thecal sac indentation.
At D7-8 and D8-9: Broad based disc bulge noted with resultant mild anterior thecal sac
compression.
Haemangioma noted at D12 vertebral body.
The vertebrae appear to be normal.
Spinal cord is normal in size and signal intensity.

The bilateral visualised sacroiliac joint and hip joints appears normal.
