Ang Eukaristiya: Ang Pagkain
at Inumin ng Buhay na
Walang Hanggan

S
a harap ng marami nating anyo ng pagkagutom, ang Eukaristiya ay
siyang ganap na sagot pagkat ito ang kaloob ni Kristo mismo. Sa kanya
lamang magtatamo ng kaganapan ang ating pagmimithi sa pagtang-
gap, pagpapahalaga, pagpapatawad, at pag-ibig.
Ang Eukaristiya ay siyang “perpektong regalo” sapagkat dito, ipinag-
kakaloob ni Hesukristo nang buung-buo ang sarili niya sa atin. Ngunit
ito’y isa ring “regalong may kalakip na hamon” sapagkat hinihingi
nitong tayo ma’y maging “regalong ganap” sa ating mga kapatid. Iyon
lamang handang maglingkod para sa kapakanan ng kanilang kapwa
ang tumatanggap sa Eukaristiya nang karapat-dapat. Kung ikinatatakot
natin ang ating mga kahinaan, di tayo dapat masiraan ng loob sapagkat ang Eukaristiya ay isa ring
“nakapangyayaring regalo” sapagkat ito’y nagbibigay-lakas sa atin upang isagawa ang kailanga’t
marapat. Gawin nating katangi-tangi ang pagdiriwang ng Eukaristiyang ito sa ating buhay at sa
buhay ng ating pamayanan.
Ngayon din ay “Araw ng mga Ama.” Ialay natin itong Eukaristiya bilang pasasalamat sa lahat ng
ginawa ng ating mga ama para sa atin, at sa pagdarasal para sa mga pagpapala ng Diyos sa kanila.

tong na Anak, Panginoong Diyos,
Kordero ng Diyos, Anak ng Ama.
Ikaw na nag-aalis ng mga kasala-
nan ng sanlibutan, maawa ka sa
amin. Ikaw na nag-aalis ng mga
kasalanan ng sanlibutan, tang-
gapin mo ang aming kahilingan.
Ikaw na naluluklok sa kanan ng
Ama, maawa ka sa amin. Sa-
pagkat ikaw lamang ang banal,
ikaw lamang ang Panginoon,
ikaw lamang, O Hesukristo, ang
Kataas-taasan, kasama ng Espiritu
Santo sa kadakilaan ng Diyos
Ama. Amen!
Panalanging Pambungad
P –Diyos na totoo at tao namang
totoo, Panginoon naming Hesu-
kristo, ang Huling Hapunan ay
inilagak mo para kami’y magka-
salu-salo sa alaala ng iyong
pagpapakasakit ukol sa mga
tao. Ipagkaloob mo ang aming
kahilingang ang iyong Katawan
at Dugo ay aming idangal sa
pagdiriwang upang ang dulot

Ang pagdiriwang ng Euka-
ristiya o “ang Hapunan ng
Panginoon” ay naging tunay
na mahalaga sa mga unang
pamayanang Kristiyano. Sa
pagpasok ng ilang pang-
aabuso, agad na nagpaalaala
si San Pablo sa kabanalan ng
seremonya na isinasagawa sa
utos ng Panginoon at bilang
paggunita sa kanya.

Mga kapatid: Ito ang aral na
tinanggap ko sa Panginoon at

hati ito, at sinabi, „Ito ang aking

Noong panahong iyon, nagsalita
si Hesus sa mga tao tungkol sa
paghahari ng Diyos; pinagaling niya

siya ng Labindalawa at sinabi sa
kanya, „Paalisin na po ninyo ang
mga tao nang makaparoon sila sa
mga nayon, sa kabukiran sa paligid,
upang humanap ng makakain at
matutuluyan. Nasa isang ilang na
lugar po tayo.‰ Ngunit sinabi niya,
„Kayo ang magbibigay sa kanila
ng makakain.‰ Sumagot sila, „Wala
po tayo kundi limang tinapay at
dalawang isda, kaya kailangang
bumili kami ng pagkain para sa mga
taong ito.‰ May limanlibong lalaki
ang naroon. Ngunit sinabi niya sa
kanyang mga alagad, „Paupuin
ninyo sila nang pulu-pulutong na
tiglilimampu.‰
Gayon nga ang ginawa nila,
pinaupo ang lahat. Kinuha ni Hesus
ang limang tinapay at dalawang isda,
tumingala sa langit, at nagpasala-
mat sa Diyos. Pinaghati-hati niya
ang mga ito, at ibinigay sa kanyang
mga alagad upang ipamahagi sa
mga tao. Nakakain ang lahat at
nabusog. Tinipon ng mga alagad
ang lumabis; at nakapuno sila ng
labindalawang bakol.

Sumasampalataya
B – Sumasampalataya ako sa
Diyos Amang makapangyarihan
sa lahat, na may gawa ng langit
at lupa.
Sumasampalataya ako kay
Hesukristo, iisang Anak ng Diyos,
Panginoon nating lahat. Nagka-
tawang-tao siya lalang ng Espiritu
Santo, ipinanganak ni Santa Ma-
riang Birhen. Pinagpakasakit ni
Poncio Pilato, ipinako sa krus,
namatay, inilibing. Nanaog sa
kinaroroonan ng mga yumao.
Nang may ikatlong araw nabuhay
na mag-uli. Umakyat sa langit.
Naluluklok sa kanan ng Diyos
Amang makapangyarihan sa lahat.
Doon magmumulang paririto at
huhukom sa nangabubuhay at
nangamatay na tao.
Sumasampalataya naman
ako sa Diyos Espiritu Santo, sa
banal na Simbahang Katolika,
sa kasamahan ng mga banal, sa
kapatawaran ng mga kasalanan,
sa pagkabuhay na muli ng na-
ngamatay na tao at sa buhay na
walang hanggan. Amen!
Panalangin ng Bayan
P –Ipinahahayag at pinatitibay
ng Eukaristiya ang pakikiisa natin
kay Hesus at sa ating sari-sarili.
Batid ang mga sanhi ng ating
pagkakawatak-watak, manala-
ngin tayo:
B –Panginoon, gawin mo kaming
kaisa mo’t ng aming kapwa!
* Nawa pahalagahan ng Simba-
han ang Eukaristiya at itaguyod
ito bilang buklod ng pag-ibig na
naglalapit sa atin kay Kristo at sa
isa’t isa, manalangin tayo! B.
* Nawa lumahok sa Eukaristiya
ang lahat ng mananampalataya
nang may pag-ibig kay Hesus at

siya’y nakisalo sa kanyang mga

na laging kasalukuyan at walang
wakas. Siya ang maamong tupang
tumubos sa tanan. Siya ang alay
na lubos mong kinalulugdan. Sa
Huling Hapunan kami’y nagsasa-
lo upang ganap kaming mapalapit
sa iyo sa pagkakaisa ng lahat ng
tao na pawang nananalig sa daki-
lang pag-ibig mo. Sa pagsasalong
ito, kami’y iyong nililingap upang
sa iyong Anak kami’y makatulad.
Kaya kaisa ng mga anghel na
nagsisiawit ng papuri sa iyo nang
walang humpay sa kalangitan,
kami’y nagbubunyi sa iyong
kadakilaan:
B – Santo, santo, santo Pangino-
ong Diyos ng mga hukbo. Napu-
puno ang langit at lupa ng kadaki-
laan mo. Osana sa kaitaasan!
Pinagpala ang naparirito sa
ngalan ng Panginoon. Osana sa
kaitaasan!

B –Si Kristo ay gunitaing sarili ay
inihain bilang pagkai’t inuming
pinagsasaluhan natin hanggang

Ang Walang Hanggang Handog

I nihandog ni Hesukristo ang kanyang sarili sa

Kalbaryo bilang Kordero ng Paskuwa ng bago at walang
hanggang Tipan ng Diyos at ng sangkatauhan. Kung
paanong may isa lamang Tagapamagitan (sangguniin
1 Tim 2:5), isa rin lamang ang kabayarang sakripisyo sa
kasaysayan ng tao na may kapangyarihang pambayad-
pinsala sa lahat ng kasalanan – ang sakripisyo ni Kristo.
Ang kanyang sakripisyo ay may kapangyarihang tumubos
sa buong sangkatauhan. Kaya nga, hindi nito kailangang
maulit. . . at hindi ito maaari pang uliƟn. Si Hesus ay di na
maaari pang magdusa pang muli ngayong siya’y nakaluklok
na sa kanan ng Ama upang mamagitan para sa aƟn. (Sang-
guniin Ro 8:34.)
Ngunit paanong mapakikinabangan ng tao ang kanyang
pagpapakasakit at muling pagkabuhay? Tayo’y patuloy
na nabubuhay at nangangailangan ng kanyang paglilig-
tas. Kailangan naƟn ito di lamang bilang kaloob ng Diyos
kundi bilang din isang “pangyayaring” masigla naƟng
kinsasangkutan sa isang makataong paraan. Nangan-
gahulugan itong ang makasaysayang sakripisyo ni Hesus
sa Kalbaryo ay marapat na maging “narito” at patuloy na
nakapangyayari para sa lahat ng tumatanggap dito nang
buong pananalig.
Gayon ang himalang nagaganap kapag ipinagdiriwang
ang EukarisƟya bilang pag-alaala sa pagdurusa, kama-
tayan, at muling pagkabuhay ni Kristo. Si Hesus mismo ang
nagplano ng pagpapanaƟli ng kanyang pag-liligtas sa lahat
ng may ibig tumanggap dito sa bawat henerasyon. Pagkat
siya itong nag-utos sa kanyang mga disipulo upang uliƟn
“bilang pag-alaala sa kanya” ang ginawa niya sa Silid sa
Itaas, bilang paghahanda sa magaganap mula nang siya’y
madakip hanggang sa siya’y muling nabuhay.
Siniseryoso naƟng mga Katoliko ang salita ni Hesus. Hin-
di para sa aƟn ang magmatuwid o tumanggi sa katunayan
ng ganitong mapagligtas na misteryo. Ang pagliligtas ng
Diyos ay hindi bunga ng tumbasang pangmatemaƟka
kundi bunga ng Kanyang “di-mawaring” pagmamahal sa
mga makasalanan.
Lahat ng ito ay hamon sa ating pananampalataya,
ngunit hindi hihigit sa Betlehem o Kalbaryo o libi-ngang
walang laman. Ang bunga ng ating “pag-ala-ala” sa
sakripisyo ni Hesus ay hindi natin kagagawan, kundi sa
Diyos. Ang ginagawa natin sa pagdiriwang ng Eukaris-
tiya ay pagtupad sa “kundisyon” para si Kristo’y maging
pagkain at inumin natin. Dahil sa Banal na Espiritu,
narito si Hesus para sa atin at tayo para sa kanya sa
pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng “banal na kapangyari-
han” sa mga salita ng pari sa paggunita sa kanyang
pagpapakasakit, pagkamatay, at muling pagkabuhay sa
tinatawag nating “Misa.”
Sa ganitong paraan, hindi lamang tayo malayang
nag-aalay ng aƟng sarili sa Ama na kaisa ni Hesus, kundi
nagpapasalamat na tumatanggap din sa kanya buhat sa
Ama bilang tandang sakramental ng kanyang mapagbigay
na pagmamahal.

The Eucharist: The Food and Drink

of Eternal Life
n a world tormented by many forms of hunger, the Eucharist is the

I ultimate answer because it is Christ’s self-giving to us. Only in him do

our hearts find the perfect fulfillment of our yearning for acceptance,
appreciation, forgiveness, and love.
The Eucharist is the “perfect gift” because, in it, Jesus Christ gives
himself totally to us. But it is also a “challenging gift” because it demands
of us that we ourselves become a “total gift” to our brothers and sisters.
Only those who are prepared to work for the good of their neighbor receive
the Eucharist with the proper disposition. If the awareness of our weakness
frightens us, we should not despair, for the Eucharist is also an “empow-
ering gift” since it gives us the strength that we need to carry out what it
demands.
Let us make this Eucharistic celebration a memorable event in our personal life and in the life
of our community.
Today is also “Father’s Day.” Let us offer this Eucharist in gratitude for all that our fathers
have done for us, and in petition for God’s blessings over them.

The Memorial That Makes Us Live

J esus Christ offered himself on Calvary as the Passover Lamb
of the new and everlas ng Covenant between God and all
mankind. Just as there is only one Mediator (see 1 Tim 2:5), so
there is only one expiatory sacrifice in human history – the one
offered by Christ – which has atoned for the sins of all mes.
But since we con nuously feel the need to experience anew
the salva on wrought by Jesus, we also need to experience
anew the effects of the saving sacrifice of Jesus. This is done
when his sacrifice is made “present” and opera ve “sacramen-
tally.”
Such is the miracle that takes place whenever the Eucharist
is celebrated as the “memorial” of Christ’s suffering, death and
resurrec on. It was Jesus himself who, at the Last Supper, “in-
vented” this wonderful way of making his saving work contem-
porary with every genera on. And it was he who commanded
his disciples to repeat “in memory of him” what he had just
done in the Upper Room, in an cipa on of the drama c events
that would take place the following day.
We Catholics take Jesus’ Eucharis c words seriously and for
what they sound. This is surely a great mystery – a “Mystery
of Faith.” We do not reject the reality of this saving mystery in
the name of human “logic.” God’s salva on is not the result of
a mathema cal equa on, but the fruit of His “illogical” love for
sinners. All this is a challenge to our faith, but not more than
Bethlehem or Calvary or the empty tomb.
The result of our “memorial” of Jesus’ sacrifice is not our
doing but God’s. What we do in the Eucharis c celebra on is to
fulfill the “condi on” for Christ to become our food and drink.
It is the Holy Spirit who makes Jesus present for us, by giving a
divine power to the words pronounced by the priest celebrant
during the “memorial” of his passion, death and resurrec on
we call “the Holy Mass.”
The Holy Spirit is also the one who “makes a Eucharist” of
our lives. Thanks to him, not only can we gratefully receive Je-
sus from the Father as the sacramental sign of his self-giving
love, but also freely offer ourselves to the Father in union with
Jesus. This is how we become “Eucharis c people” and a “Eu-
charis c Community.”
