( Granulation machines )

Fluid bed Granulation machine

Requires proper balance between inlet air temperature and feed rate

A- For a given feed rate :

1- Higher inlet air temperature causes rabid evaporation of the binder solution and results in smaller ,
friable granules
2- Lower inlet air temperature causes slower drying of binder solution results in larger , denser and
stronger granules
B- For a given inlet air temperature :
1- Higher feed rate , increase evaporation load and slow drying results in larger , denser and strong
granules .
2- Lower feed rate , decrease evaporation load results in smaller and friable granules .

(Effervescent granules )

Their components :

A- Sodium bicarbonate .
B- Citric acid .
C- Tartaric acid .

They act as base for preparation of medical granules .

Preparation of granules :

1- Wet method : include addition of alcohol as granulating agent in percentage of 95% with enough water
to granulate without causing effervescence .
2- Dry method: require heat to 93 – 104 % to liberate the water of crystallization from citric acid which
serves as mistiming agent for powder for granulation

Why citric to tartaric acid ratio should be 1:2 ?

Because if citric acid increased the granules will be sticky , while if tartaric acid increased the granules will be
friable and crumble .
