HMS Year 7 English Tasks – Non Fiction Writing - Newspapers

Week Five

This week, you will continue your work about non-fiction writing that can be found in
newspapers. Each week, you will be looking at two main themes within newspapers. There is
a tracking sheet available on the website in which you can tick what you have completed
and write the main things you have learned (your ‘takeaway’) from each theme. You will
also have SPAG tasks to work through, and you should continue reading your Accelerated
Reader book – it would also be a great idea to read some newspapers!

- Read the ‘Leisure, Lifestyle and Travel’ PowerPoint presentation

- Work through each slide, taking notes as you go will be very useful, and you will
need to complete activities as you come across them, using the Objectively Speaking
and Postcards from America worksheets when needed.

- Read the ‘Diaries and Blogs’ PowerPoint presentation

- Work through each slide, taking notes as you go will be very useful, and you will
need to complete activities as you come across them, using the Diaries and Blogs
worksheet when needed.

-
- SPAG activities – complete the who and whom, and the tricky spellings worksheets
(answers are available for you to mark after). Don’t forget to check all of your other
work for SPAG errors!

- Reading – continue reading your Accelerated Reader book and completing quizzes
(remember you can use the readon.myon.co.uk website to find more books, or if not,
read your own books at home).

- Spellings – remember to learn the correct spellings and meanings of the 20 topic
specific words found on the HMS website – practise copying these out using your best
handwriting.

Have fun Year 7!
