CITATION STYLE:
A set of rules through which resources are quoted in an academic writing are called citation
style or format.
When quoting someone else’s work in an academic writing, mentioning original sources is
important to avoid plagiarism. It is a way through which credit is given to the person to whom
the original research or article belongs. Citation style or format tells how the information is
ordered.

FOUR CITATION STYLES:

There are four main citation styles or formats, namely:
-APA (American Psychological Association)
-MLA (Modern Language Association)
-Chicago/Turabian
-IEEE

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FOUR CITATION STYLES:

-APA style is used mainly for social sciences.
Example: Sapolsky, R. M. (2017). Behave: The biology of humans at our best and worst. Penguin
Books.
-MLA style is mainly used by humanities.
Example: Card, Claudia. The Atrocity Paradigm: A Theory of Evil. Oxford UP, 2005.
-Chicago style is used by business, history and fine arts.
Example: Michael Pollan, The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals (New York:
Penguin, 2006), 99–100.
-IEEE style is used for science.
Example: D. Sarunyagate, Ed., Lasers. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1996.
