Puerto Montt is located in the Los Lagos Region
of Chile. Puerto Montt is a port city and
commune in southern Chile, nestled at the
northern end of the Reloncaví Sound, in the
province of Llanquihue, Los Lagos Region.
It has a number of inhabitants according to the
2017 census of 245,902.
Its climate is mostly cold and it rains a lot, but in
the summer months of January and February it
is quite warm.
Its most typical foods are the curanto, chapalele,
milcao, etc.
At present, the city's economy is based on
agriculture, livestock and forestry in the surrounding
islands, and salmon fishing and aquaculture in the
fjords and the nearby Pacific Ocean.
It is a highly touristic city because of its beautiful
landscapes and because it has access to some
islands such as Chiloé, Tenglo, Huar, etc.
The history of Puerto Montt is fascinating because,
despite being a city founded during the German
colonization of southern Chile, it developed and became
the second largest salmon producer in the world
between the 1990s and 2000s
