One-Octave, One String Major Scales

Directions in student book:

Memorize the fingering as written for each example scale. Play the scale on all strings in cycle form (one
string after another). Go slowly to perfect intonation and left-hand shape. Practice with multiple bowing
and rhythmic variations during each practice session. Record your progress on a practice record and
include tempos. Feel free to practice with a drone or tuner.

Scales beginning on the first finger:

Violin/Viola/Cello begin the scales at every half-step, 1st - 4th positions (ex. on the G String - Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D).
When starting in 3rd position or above, cellists will bring their left thumb on the string when playing the last three notes.
Basses begin on Ab, A, and Bb positions (as on the G string) - fingerings change beginning in B position.
