Office design nowadays is a pressing topic, whether people like an open space design or a

private separated room design. Closed room design like the ones we see in movies like the change-up or
the office is very popular in the US while in Vietnam, the open space design is more popular Not only
does it directly affect the employee performance but also the connection between employees and
employee and their bosses as well. Open space design allows for this open connection well while the
separating room offers silence and increases their performance.

On the one hand, Open space design offers a free workspace where talking and small chat are
normal. Open space design can boost the connection between the people working there. For example, if
a person wants to talk to their boss about a project which has the potential to bring the company to the
top, but they must wait in a long line if it is a closed room design while he can just walk to his boss and
talk openly in an open space one. This type of design can further improve the working condition of
workers both reducing stress and loneliness in working spaces. This improves the company’s
performance and boosts its rank in the market.

On the other hand, closed room design allows for a more concentrated and private workspace
where distraction can be limited. Because closed room design like the ones we see in movies like the
change-up or the office is popular because it created a hierarchy order which helps people find other
people better than an open space design. For instance, an employee wants to find his boss for that
project again, but he is in an open space company and can’t seem to find his boss anywhere, if his or her
company has chosen a closed space design then he will have no trouble finding his boss in his room.

In conclusion, both designs are beneficial to companies looking for a healthy work environment.
The solution however could be incorporating both designs, bringing an open space environment while
having private working spaces or little boxes in them.
