DEVELOPMENTAL TASK 5
One factor that might affect reaction time is when another player on the opposing
team trying to catch the ball as well. While you are trying to identify where the ball is
coming from and who is throwing it, an opposing player may also be processing this
information as well. If that player makes the decision to try to catch the ball before you do,
then that will change our reaction. Now do I not only have to worry about catching the
ball, I also have to make sure that I beat my opponent to that spot so that they do not catch
the ball.
In a soccer match, the goalie is also known as the goalkeeper, is the player who
prevents the opposing team from scoring any points. The goalie should be able to identify
who is throwing the ball, where it is coming from, and how fast it is approaching during
the stimulus identification stage of information processing. After knowing where the ball
came from in the response selection stage, the goalie can now position herself to catch the
ball and begin the reaction programming stage. To catch the ball coming from the opposite
side of the field, the goalie will position herself toward the goal.
