Being the seeds of change

The Orbians pledged to play their part in making Diwali a means to light hope and feel illuminated; pledged to add to the smiles, to the joy but not
to the noise and pollution; pledged that our freedom to celebrate should not clash with the needs of the environment, animals, the sick and the
elderly. All have chosen a clear sunny or starry sky over one with smoke, smog or haze for days together and hence pledged to say no to
crackers. Students also discussed ways to make decorative items reusing the things readily available rather than excessive or impulsive
shopping for the occasion. The Orbians uphold the values of love, empathy and rationality very dear to their heart. Here's wishing everyone a
very Happy Diwali!

Water Week (3rd - 6th October):

The water week was celebrated with enthusiasm and a widespread
message to use this life giving, colourless, odorless liquid judiciously.
The tiny tots of pre-primary wing, were made to understand the
importance of water through theme relevant ‘teacher’s talk’ and
activities that enlightened the students about its importance. Later
children spoke about ways to reduce wastage of water.

No Bag Day and Pet Day (13th October):

Breaking away from the regular routine, a day was dedicated to
learning activities where textbooks were kept aside and circle
meetings, hands on activities, singing, dancing, reading, talking and
having a pet in the premises and role plays engaged the students.
Various other activities, to cater to all types of learners, were organised
by the facilitators.

A humbling experience
Japanese society is based on discipline and self-restraint. People not only keep their houses/shops clean but they also make sure the street
(extending beyond their immediate surroundings) is clean.
During my stay in Japan I used the train to commute to office daily. As, I rushed on my way to office daily, I used to find a man wearing a suit
cleaning the footpath in front of the Meitetsu ticket counter. This ticket counter was out on the street and not inside the railway station. I was
amazed that there were such good uniforms for cleaners in Meitetsu Rail Company. But, I was wrong. I found out later that he was not one of
the cleaning staff but was in fact the ticket collector for that station. He daily cleaned the space in front of his counter before his job started at
9 AM. I was humbled by the experience and wished the same attitude could prevail in my country.

needs individual engagement for it to be clean. A steady step was taken by the Orbians to fulfil the mission of ‘Clean India’ when they took up the
initiative to clean their classrooms with the assistance of their class teachers. as it is the foremost duty of all students to keep their learning area

Why we must all try our best to reduce Garbage and Pollution...
Ÿ Known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, there even is a “continent” made from the plastic trash, floating in the Pacific Ocean.
According to some estimates, the patch can be as large as twice the size of the US.
Ÿ Landfills are among the biggest contributors to soil pollution. About 80% of the items buried in landfills could be recycled.
Ÿ Composting and recycling alone have prevented 85 million tons of waste to be dumped in 2010.
Ÿ More than 100 pesticides in any medium- air, water or soil can cause birth defects, gene mutation and cancer.

Vouch For Our Country Fireworks

There is an apt analogy for cleanliness, Do you like fireworks,
When the same is seen next to godliness With some unexpected jerks?
70 years since we got liberty, Crackers - noisy and loud,
But why is our country still dirty? I do not like them somehow.
The aim is to keep our country spic and Diwali is approaching,
span Each one, celebrating.
And littering is to be banned A smile on one’s face
We must be spotless Adding to one’s grace.
But cannot act thoughtless But yes, crackers are hazardous
So let’s take a vow Bringing an element of disaster.
Not to dirty our country from now. It’s a pledge of mine,

Heights
I am talking about something,
Which is truly amazing,
It is something that is not experienced,
Often by you and me.
It is actually known
To the birds and kites
Something we all know
As a phenomenon, known as heights.
Whether it’s skydiving,
Or against you the wind blows,
It could even be just looking
Out of a fifteenth storey window.

using a fire extinguisher under the guidance of a fireman. Then a fireman walked up dressed in safety gears and
explained about its importance and using safety tools. Out of curiosity we raised many queries which were

TOS1:
In order to direct more attention towards the academic performance
of classes 10 and 11, the parent teacher interaction was organized on
two separate days exclusively for these classes. During the PTM, the
parents and the teachers discussed and reflected upon the academic
performance of the students.

It is fun to ask and answer questions. Try answering the following:

1. ‘Ishiguro's works have also been compared to Salman Rushdie, Jane Austen, and Henry James. Who are these people? What are they
famous for?
2. Kazuo Ishiguro was awarded Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 2017. Has any Indian received this prestigious prize? If yes, name
them.

“When the world gives you lemons, make lemonades.” This well known quotation has a lot to teach you about life. Adversities are a part
and parcel of each one’s life but the winners in the game of life are those who turn adversities in their favour. We all should learn to make
the most of what we have even when we do not have the desirable ingredients. Resources will rarely ever be in abundance. Complaining
about crisis will not take you anywhere, treating it as an opportunity to treat things differently definitely will.
