ELECTION 2022

The Philippines is again on the verge of starting another 6 years under a new
government administration. On the 9th of May 2022, the democratic practice of
electing the President, Vice President, Senators, Legislators, and other Local and
National Politicians took place. The day was looked forward by every Filipinos as
they are hoping for real change and progress. But this election is by far the only
election where digital distortion of information becomes rampant.

During the campaign period given to all candidates, supporters seem to take
a fight against each other through online "Bardagulan" as they refer it. A new term
that has been taking place over the internet causing chaos and misunderstanding.
In addition, such fight between supporters has been caused by rampant
misinformation and disinformation. We cannot deny the fact that internet and
information manipulation has been evidently a dirty tactic in politics as most of their
target voters have their social media accounts. They are trying to revise history,
spread confusing and libelous information against their opponent as much as they
can and as much as their target is believing them.

Politics in the Philippines is always chaotic. We cannot say one party is clean
and the other is not just by looking at their plans and listening to their speeches at
debates and meetings. We will always be needing to experience their leadership. As
a Filipino, we should be intelligent enough to weigh morals, competence, and skills
of whoever is asking for our votes. For now, the Filipinos have voted. What we can
do is to respect and protect our democracy for the sake and remembrance of people
who fought for it in the past. I rest my case.
