John Flansburgh and John Linnell (originally from Lincoln, MA) borrowed (musically) from everywhere, but their freewheeling eclecticism was enhanced by their arcane, geeky sense of humor. The duo would reference everything from British Invasion to Tin Pan Alley, while making allusion to pulp fiction and President Polk. Through their string of indie releases and constant touring, They Might Be Giants built up a huge following on college campuses during the late 80s, switching to a major label in the early 90s. With support from MTV, 1990s Flood became a gold album, and with it, the duo began to reap commercial rewards, moving into the status of the most popular alternative bands before grunge.

inFAMOUS 1 composers Jim Dooley and JD Mayer have combined forces with New Orleans' legendary band Galactic and percussionist/composer Brain (Primus, Tom Waits) to craft the score for inFAMOUS 2. The Blue Soundtrack will be available to fans via the Playstation Network and iTunes as well as a physical release prior to the launch of the game. The Playstation Network version of The BlueSoundtrack will include a collection of 15 bonus tracks mixed in surround sound for playback on PS3 systems with a 6-channel home theatre system!

With "A Tribute To Mario Bauz", Pedro "Rudy" Calzado took up the heritage of his former band leader and friend. The successor to that album, "La Musica Tpica de Cuba", on the other hand, returns to more traditional playing styles. Mario Bauz was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1911 and initially learned the clarinet. In 1926 he went to New York to record some Cuban "danzones". Gonzalo Rubalcaba's great passion ("Mi Gran Pasion") is Cuban "danzn rhythm", which was invented in 1879 by clarinettist Miguel Falde and rhythmically perfected by Jos Urf. On this recording, Gonzalo has masterfully interwoven the three elements of his artistic personality: danzn, jazz and classical music. The historical significance of this recording is quite clear. The romantic emotionality that paints beautiful images of sound has sinews of steel. It simultaneously invites the listener with its surface beauty, only to create bonds that hold on strongly as it weaves its spell. Brederodes is music that flows, drawing influences from both the jazz and the classical traditions. It suggests more than it states, and is the more powerful for its restraint. The unique band founded by Franois Couturier continues to draw inspiration from the films of Andrey Tarkovsky as its frame of reference expands. Allusions to Pergolesi, Bach and Shostakovich are to be found in the compositions here, as are compelling group improvisations.
