When would you want to create a model?

You need a stable data structure

You know what kind of view you will need

You can use an Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)


workflow

You have a planning or enterprise analytics use case

You need repeatable import jobs or multiple import


jobs from different sources

Getting started creating a model

You can create and manage models in the Modeler


module accessible from the navigation menu, at the
far left.

In the Modeler, you can:


▪ View/edit existing models
▪ Create new models via data first modeling
− from uploaded Microsoft Excel or CSV files
− from a data connection
▪ Create new models via structure first modeling

If you choose a data first modeling workflow, you


will create a classic model.

If you choose a structure first modeling workflow,


you can create a new model.

To create a model from uploaded data, choose


▪ From a CSV or Excel file

To create a model from uploaded data, choose


▪ From a Data Source

Either option will start a data wrangling workflow

A classic account model will be created

Structure first

To create a structure first model, choose


▪ Model

You will have the option to select whether you


wish to create a classic account model, or a
new model.

You will then enter the structure first modeling


environment.

Measures can be added from the + sign in the


navigation panel at the left.

Measure settings can be edited in the Details pane


▪ Data Type (type of number)
▪ Aggregation and Exception Aggregation
▪ Required Dimensions
▪ Unit and Currency Types
▪ Scaling Factors
▪ Decimal Places

Dimensions

Dimensions can be added from the + sign in the


navigation panel at the left

Can be public or private to the model

Settings can be edited in the Details pane


▪ ID and Description
▪ Whether Data Access Control is enabled
▪ Hierarchies and settings (level and parent/child)
▪ Whether Currency is enabled
▪ Custom Properties
▪ Locking (for planning)

Selecting a dimension brings you to the


dimension modeler for that dimension

Dimension modeler

The dimension modeler is accessible from


the Modeler module, to create and manage
both public and private dimensions.
Data can be added
▪ Manually
▪ Loaded (public dimensions only)

Metadata can be edited


▪ ID
▪ Description
▪ Currencies
▪ Parent/Child Hierarchies
▪ Custom Properties
▪ Per Member Data Access Control

Import jobs

Import jobs are managed from Data Management


For each import job, the following is shown:
▪ Source
▪ Status of wrangling and mapping
▪ Whether the load job was executed
▪ Whether there are errors in wrangling
▪ Scheduling
▪ The detailed job execution history
− with information on import errors

Load jobs can be


▪ Re-wrangled
▪ Re-executed

Here, the dataset created in wrangling is matched to the measures and dimensions of the model
