St.

Dominic Savio

Saint Dominic Savio was born and raised in Italy. Where he attended the school of St.
John Bosco. John became a mentor to him. To this day he is the youngest saint ever to be
canonized by the catholic church without being some kind of martyr. When he was just 4 years
old he would pray almost every chance he got. He would go to church every morning and he
knelt outside in any kind of weather while waiting for the priest to come and unlock the doors.
At age 5 he became an altar boy, and when he was just 7 he wrote 4 rules in his journal. They
read the following: I will go to Confession often, and as frequently to Holy Communion as my
confessor allows. I wish to sanctify the Sundays and festivals in a special manner. My friends
shall be Jesus and Mary. Death rather than sin. His motto was “I can do big things, but I want
everything to be for the glory of God”. He died at age 14, 1857. He was canonized in 1954 by
Pope Pius XII.

I did this saint because he lived a simple life. Of course

he did some weird stuff that I didn’t really see fit to put in my essay. Though in general he was
simple. He did normal things, like anybody else. Though something was just different about him.
He was blessed with this love for God when he was so young. It was obvious that the Holy Spirit
was working through him. I also liked how he was so determined any loyal to God. For instance,
he put rocks in his bed so he can go through some kind of physical penance. Anyway, he acted
with love and compassion just as Jesus did.
