Document Development Exposition: Workplace Correspondence

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
The planning for the workspace correspondence project was a little bit tough to start. One thing that I
had to think about a lot was how I can tie in my subject, which was tsunamis, to an issue that can be
solved. I decided to go through what happens when an actual tsunami hits and actually found an
issue with environmental cleanup. Even though there might already be a current solution, I ended up
finding something that I can send an email and a memo to my coworkers. In the planning process
however, I did have a little bit of trouble with that that did make me fall a little behind.

First Draft (for peer editing)

The first draft ended up being just the email. In the email, it talked a good bit about the issues
regarding getting more funding for the plan, as I posed as someone who recently just got struck by a
hurricane. What I was planning for the memo was going a lot more in depth about how to come up
with a plan to actually clean the debris.

Second Draft (for your packet)

In the second draft, I mainly kept the email the same and drafted up the packet. One challenge that I
was met here was coming up with the word count for the memo part. After coming up with some
good information from the resources that I found though, I was able to start off with a good
foundation for a memo that can be improved.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

When I got the suggestions back, I found that I needed to sort out a few things, which made the
email and the memos easier to make. One of the things that I did was to make both the memo and
the email just a little bit informal. I had the realization that I would theoretically be sending these
messages to my co-workers, which still needs a formal tone, but less than if I needed to send
something to a boss or someone important in the company. Providing some suggestion or
recommendation also made it a little easier, as I edited the memo as to provide plans for coworkers
to start to organize against tsunami danger zones.
