Film Analysis

The film Jose Rizal is a 3 hour Story of the life of Dr. Jose Rizal. The Director Marilou Diaz-Abaya
avoids on giving a historical lesson. The script that was written was off the roof, with a contribution of
the Director’s collaborator, Ricky Lee. The Soft Cinematography creates a magic appropriate to the story.
Cesar Montano‘s acting as Rizal is vey remarkable, and it a very well told story.

The movie starts in 1891 with Rizal as an established Author and a linguits. He vows to write about the
abuses and the suffering of the filipino people during the spanish rule. In the movie the writtings of Rizal
galvanize the Filipinos, but they receive scorns to the spanish government. That vows to supress the
filipino revolution. In order to know the position of Dr. Jose rizal in the Revolutionary uprising, the
Spanish Government tortured Paciano the brother of Jose, played by Pen Medina. He claims that
Paciano Profoundly inspired him During his Flashback in the qmovie by introducing him to the injusties
that are happening to there country. Following his interogation. Jose’s brother was released and return
to Manila. where the family decides to go on the chase. An order is issued that Jose Rizal be arrested on
sight. The film cuts back to the youth of Jose, where he was named Pepe. when he is a child, his mother
is wrongly convicted and imprisoned for two years for attempted murder. As a young man, a college
professor mocked him for claiming that Spaniards were superior to Filipinos. After Jose begins raising
the question of Filipino independence, Filipino students start battling Spanish students. Jose is arrested
and put on trial by cutting back to 1896, and his books are banned. During his trial, the film then cuts
back and forth between Jose's rise as a revolutionary and his fall from grace. Rizal spent considerable
time as a student in Madrid, but then became disgusted with the occupation of Filipino land by Spain
and the treatment of Filipino citizens by Spain. Madrid's mayor is arrested for possessing a Rizal book
and discredited. In 1896, a violent uprising broke out that Jose didn't endorse because he saw it as a
mass suicide. In a flashback, it is discovered that Jose had fathered a boy who had died shortly after
birth, leading to his emotional torment when his only son was buried. His books are investigated and
attacked in the trial for their pro-Filipino stand against the imperialists of Spain.Via his voice and writing,
he is found guilty of launching a revolt, and by firing squad, he is sentenced to death. "Before his
execution, he sneaks a poem into his family, and he screams, "It's over! A full-blown uprising is on its
way soon. The Filipino flag was raised triumphantly two years later, in 1898, when the people celebrated
their freedom.

In conclusion the film was very exciting to watch and gives a direct detail on how our national Hero
Fought without violence dand starts a fire to the hearts of the filipino people during his time to revolt in
the spanish government. This movie clearly shows us hoe to demostrate our love for our own country
and our people
