How To Install Avast Antivirus on Your PC

This is a step-by-step instruction guide on how to install Avast Antivirus software on

a personal computer (PC). Anyone with basic knowledge of how to use a computer should

find the instructions easy to follow, which is the author’s intention. However, it is noteworthy

that getting software programs from the internet can easily expose users to the risk of

computer viruses, meaning that a step-by-step guide is necessary. Therefore, these

instructions feature two sections: how to download the antivirus and a second section on how

to install it successfully.

Step One: How to Download the Program

1. Go to the Avast website by visiting the https://www.avast.com/en-us/index on your

browser.

Note: The website detects your computer operating system automatically. The following

page will appear for those using windows 10.

2. Click the blue button (circled with a red line the image above) with the writing,

“download free protection,” which is a link to the download page.

Note: The Avast system will select the right installation file for your computer.

3. Double click the downloaded file at the bottom, named “avast_free-

antivirus_setup_online.exe, circled in (circled with a red line the image above).

Note: This should appear at the bottom left side of the screen.

Step Two: Installing the Antivirus

1. Click on the install button shown on the following screen that appears on your PC

screen.

Tip: The system will enter the installation stage. You will be able to monitor the progress

from a small window at the bottom right of the screen. Do not turn off the computer until the

installation reaches 100% when the installation is complete.

2. Click continue on the following window that appears.

3. Click on the “run first scan” button circled in red on the following screen to run a test

to detect malware and viruses, among other issues on the computer.
