How To Install Avast Antivirus on Your PC

Introduction

This document is meant to serve as an instruction guide on how to install Avast

Antivirus software on a personal computer (PC). Anyone with basic knowledge of how to use

a computer should find the instructions easy to follow, which is the author’s intention.

However, it is noteworthy that getting software programs from the internet can easily expose

users to the risk of computer viruses, meaning that a step-by-step guide is necessary.

Therefore, these instructions feature two sections: how to download the antivirus and a

second section on how to install it successfully.

Step One: How to Download the Program

1. First, go to the Avast website by visiting the https://www.avast.com/en-us/index on

your browser. The website will detect your computer operating systems. The

following page will appear for those using windows 10.

2. Next, click on the blue button with the writing, “download free protection,” which is a

link to the download page. Here, the Avast system will select the right installation file

for your computer.

3. Double click the downloaded file at the bottom, named “avast_free-

antivirus_setup_online.exe, circled in blue. This should appear at the bottom left side

of the screen.

Step Two: Installing the Antivirus

1. The following screen will appear on your desktop. Yours is to click on the install

button.

2. The system will enter the installation stage. You will be able to monitor the progress

from a small window at the bottom right of the screen. Do not turn off the computer

until the installation reaches 100%.

3. Once the installation is done, you are to click continue on the following window that

appears.

4. Finally, click on the “run first scan” button on the following screen to run a test to

detect malware and viruses, among other issues on the computer.
