Task 6 – Elements of Art

I chose Dance,

These are the Elements of Dance:

 Body – is the moving form or shape that the dancer feels and that the audience can see. As the
dancer moves in situ or moves about the dance space, the body might be relatively motionless
at times or can change. In a dance phrase, dancers might accentuate particular body parts or use
their entire body at simultaneously.

 Action – any human movement, including dance steps, facial expressions, partner lifts, gestures,
and even regular movements like walking, are considered to be an element of dancing. Action
includes not just steps and sequences but also pauses and brief periods of relative stillness since
dance is made up of streams of movement and pauses.

 Space – Dancers engage the environment in a variety of ways. They could remain in one location
or they might move about. They have the ability to change the pace, volume, size, and routes of
their motions.

 Time – When? is the key phrase for the time element. The general idea that we cycle between
action and relaxation is what makes human movement inherently rhythmic. Examples of
rhythms in nature that repeat but not as often as in a metered rhythm are breath and waves.

 Energy – is concerned with how movement occurs. Changes in movement flow as well as the
application of force, tension, and weight are choices related to energy. An arm gesture might be
forceful or soft, tight or loose, hefty or light, free-flowing or readily halted. An arabesque step
can be taken with either a quick, percussion-based assault or a smooth, flowing ease. Energy
may change instantly, and it's possible that different forms of energy are active at once.
