Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
My idea was to make instructions of something I was familiar with and could make whenever I
wanted. I decided to make instructions of a recipe of apple pie overnight Oats that can be done in
less than five minutes.

First Draft (for peer editing)

For the first draft, I wanted to get all the text in the document and have all the explanation, steps,
ingredients, and tools needed to follow the recipe. First, have the ingredients, then the
equipment/tools, and then the instructions. This way whoever is going to follow the recipe will only
have to read the ingredients and tools to see if they have everything needed to follow the
instructions.

Second Draft (for your packet)

In the second draft, I added a small overview and warnings to explain a bit about the process and a
safety warning in case the person following the instructions is a child.
I also added images so that the reader can have a general view of how the process looks.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

In the final draft, I added a frequently asked question section that way the reader can have some
general understanding of how the product will look and have a better understanding of what they
must do.
I also added borders to the images, so they look better.
With all these additions the instructions feel easier to follow and understand compared to the first
draft.
