ANSUL. INSTALLATION — CHECKFIRESC RECHARGE ELECTRIC INSPECTION AND DETECTION AND MAINTENANCE ACTUATION MANUAL SYSTEM CI a A TT) z © This manuel is intended for use withthe CHECKFIRE SC Electric Detection and Actuation System. Those who install, operate, inspect. or maintain this system should read this entire manual. Specific sections will be of particular interest depending upon one's responsibilities, ‘As with all electro-mechanical equipment, the electric detection ‘and actuation system needs periodic caré to provide maximum assurance that it wil operate effectively and safely. Inspection ‘requency should be based on the requirements of the equipment ‘on Which the system is installed and the environment in which the equipment will operate, On equipment working 24 hoursida seven daysiweek, maintenance should be performed on the detection and actuation system at 250, 600, and 1000-hour intervals. On equipment that does not work continuously, main- tenance should be performed at least every three months, ‘The application and use of the CHECKFIRE SC system is limited to the application and uses described in this manual. For other applications, contact your local Ansul distributor or the Ansul technical representative in your area. Read these statements carefully now, and again before per- forming the steps to which they apply. cy In case of fire, evacuate area to lessen risk of injury trom flames, heat, hazardous vapors, explosions, or other hazards that may be created. Gs ‘The squib is an explosive device. Do not attach connector conto squib until squib is installed in actuator body. Ifthe squib is actuated outside of actuator body, possible personal injury could result. oO ‘Manual actuation wil result in immediate system discharge which may obscure vision. Make cortain vehicle Is stopped Safely before manually actuating the system. Manual actua- tion will bypass all auxiliary shutdown and alarm functions. rey The fe suppression system could be accidentally actuated ‘causing the release of agent if the squib or LT-5-R cartridge {s installed before the appropriate installation stop is reached, Pe “The control module could be damaged and the fire suppres- sion system may not operate if the squib spring (shunt) is not removed before installing the squib connector. Pethn} ‘The fire suppression system will discharge dry chemical it the cartridge is installed when operating the strike button. Do not install cartridge unless puncture pin is fully retracted with ring pin inserted and visual inspection seal installed. od Discharged ithium-thiony/ chloride batteries may contain sig- riffcant amounts of unused energy and should be handled with eare, Do not compact for disposal. Before disposal, each battery module must be electrically isolated by enclosing a plastic bag and sealing the bag. Do not dispose of in fire ‘Quantities of 50 or less discharged battery modules can be disposed of in sanitary land fill. Quantities greater than 50 must be disposed of in chemical landfills in accordance with Applicable regulations. BoC} ‘The detection/output module contains a circuit board which is static sensitive, Do not touch or handle the electronics por- tion ofthe circuit board as damage could result. Handle only ‘on the terminal block end, UL) ‘The control module has a Ithium battery pack as its only ower source. The controller continuously checks battery ‘status. Verily that the GREEN battery LED is pulsing. If the YELLOW battery LED and audio alarm are pulsing at arate of once every three seconds, the battery is low and must be eplaced to onsure the system will operate properly. BLL} “The front cover assembly contains a circuit board which is static sensitive. Do not touch or handle the electronics por- tion of the circuit board as damage could result. The relay module contains a crcult board which is static sen- sitive, Do not touch or handle the electronics portion of the circuit board as damage could result. Handle only on the ter- ‘minal block end. APPROVALS The CHECKFIRE SC Electric Detection and Actuation System |s FM Approved for use on vehicles for automatic fire detection and fire suppression release. The FM Approval Number is JIRTBAS.AF. TOTAL SYSTEM The complete CHECKFIRE SC system is composed of compo: nents which are combined to provide automatic tre detection and actuation. The electric detection and actuation system is designed for use only with Ansul fire suppression systems fequiring pneumatic input as a means of actuation. Some of its features include linear (wire) andor spot (thermal) detection, supervised circuitry, internally powered, adjustable shutdown and discharge time delays, auxiliary elays, and one: button operation The fre detection/suppression package is ideally suited for use (on most vehicles employed in mining, agriculture, forestry, con- struction, public transportation, public utilities, land fil, and waste disposal ‘SYSTEM COMPONENTS: Page 1 REV. 1 CHECKFIRE SC Electric Detection and Actuation System Consists of the following components (Figure 1) 1.
