Calculating Stoichiometry Ratios

for Epoxy Curing Agents and Resins

To obtain optimal properties with epoxy curing agents and resins,

the components are typically used at approximate stoichiometric levels.

Stoichiometric ratios can be calculated using the following equations:

Note: The AHEW for Air Products’ curing agents is provided on the
product’s summary page in our web site, as well as on the product
data sheet.

1. Determine the epoxide equivalent weight (EEW) of the resin mixture:

EEW of mix = Total Weight

Wt. A + Wt. B + Wt. C + …
EEW A EEW B EEW C

2. Determine the AHEW of the curing agent mixture:

AHEW of mix = Total Weight

Wt. A + Wt. B + Wt. C + …
AHEW A AHEW B AHEW C

3. Calculate the parts by weight of curing agent per 100 parts resin
(phr) using the following equation:

phr of the curing agent = AHEW of Curing Agent

x 100
