Figure 3Locate the oxygen sensor electrical connectors at the right side of the engine
above the exhaust manifold (green arrows). Label or mark the connectors to help during
the reinstallation process. I suggest replacing one sensor at a time so you do not mix up
the connectors.
Figure 4Next, disconnect electrical connector (of oxygen sensor you are replacing) by
pulling it apart. Then detach the wiring harness from the mounting clips by pulling it out.

Figure 5Using an oxygen sensor socket, remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust
manifold. Lightly coat new oxygen sensor thread with anti-seize compound. Install the
new oxygen sensor and torque to specs. Then reroute the wiring harness and connect
the electrical connector. Repeat if replacing both sensors. Then reassemble the engine
covers and clear any engine fault codes using a BMW scan tool.
Figure 6Locate the oxygen sensor electrical connectors on top of the engine near the
fuel rail (green arrows). Label or mark connectors to help during the reinstallation
process. I suggest replacing one sensor at a time so you do not mix up connectors.
Figure 7Next, disconnect the electrical connector of the oxygen sensor you are
replacing. Then detach the wiring harness from the mounting clips by pulling it out.
