Unity in Diversity in Our Scripture
1. Cognizance of the existence of diversity, globally spread in all communities. Muslims
are reminded that Almighty God is always watching all their actions. 2. The Holy Qur’an
requires Muslims to understand and accept that mankind is a single nation and Almighty
God had sent His messengers amongst all communities since Creation, with His
messages, which were expressed in different progressive ways, through numerous
generations and over different civilizations. There is need for unity in diversity of all
Faiths, regardless of their country of habitat. 3. All Muslims, must recognise the origins
of mankind from original Adam and Eve and out of these two, have spread many
communities throughout the world. 4. The Holy Qur’an, is the absolute principal
scriptural law in all affairs of Muslims, makes the following Ordinances: HQ49:13 “O
mankind, surely We have created you from a male and a female, and made you tribes
and families that you may know each other. Surely the noblest of you with Allah is the
most dutiful of you. Surely Allah is Knowing, Aware.” HQ4:1 “O people, keep your duty to
your Lord, Who created you from a single being and created its mate of the same (kind),
and spread from these two many men and women. And keep your duty to Allah, by Whom
you demand one of another (your rights), and (to) the ties of relationship. Surely Allah is
ever a Watcher over you.” HQ5:5 “This day (all) good things are made lawful for you. And
the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful
for them. And so are the chaste from among the believing women and the chaste from
among those who have been given the Book before you, when you give them their
dowries, taking (them) in marriage, not fornicating nor taking them for lovers in secret.
And whoever denies faith, his work indeed is fruitless; and in the Hereafter he is among
the losers.” 5. Almighty God had sent over 124,000 persons delegated as His Prophets
and Messengers. HQ2:136 “Say: We believe in Allah and (in) what has been revealed to
us, and (in) what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the
tribes, and (in) what was given to Moses and Jesus, and (in) what was given to the
prophets from their Lord, we make no distinction between any of them and to Him we
submit.” 6. Respect all other Faiths as a single nation. HQ10:19 “And (all) people are but
a single nation, then they disagree. And if a word had not already gone forth from your
Lord, the matter would have certainly been decided between them regarding that in
which they disagree.” HQ6:108 “And do not abuse those whom they call upon besides
Allah, in case, exceeding the limits, they abuse Allah through ignorance. Thus to every
people have We made their deeds seem good; then to their Lord is their return so He will
inform them of what they did.” 7. That is unity in diversity and in recognising all Faiths.
Practice: Reading the Holy Qurán; sermons (khutbah) in Jumuáh and Qurán Dars and personal
consultations of people with the Imam and other learned persons (Maulana) in Islam.
