We Stand Together On Preventing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders targets 18 to 35 year old women and men through established networks of sororities and military personnel. By tapping this resource we feel that this affiliation allows us to connect to something larger by building a social network of involved peers in the target age group. The same affiliation allows us to develop state and local baseline data for comparison while developing an untapped network of new stakeholders and partners nationally. FASD is under-recognized as a significant, and fully preventable, potential cause of birth defects and development disabilities. As the demographic segment most likely to expose a fetus to FASD are women who are binge drinkers, our program of involving military , campus advocates and sororities is worthy of investigation by FASD researchers and the communities of practice. Our investigation shows that many female college students are eager to address this issue as a cause; they just need training and education in the syndrome and its prevention. We are asking your alliance in reviewing materials for accuracy in interpretation and availing our demographics in furthering research. We are not targeting research dollars, but asking to work together as a force for change. Chances, choices and outcomes- getting the future you deserve a platform of test early and test often, addresses prevention and safeguards in orchestrating a better future for yourself as a person not on the pregnancy radar. In reaching them on their level through social media and appropriate message branding, increased awareness can achieve a significant impact. I ask you to please join us. One in 25 children are affected with ADHD, Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, Autism or other CNS and brain disorders. We have compelling research and information especially on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. 1 in 1,000 live births, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is one of the nations most detrimental and completely preventable birth defects. Annually, approximately 4 million infants are born with prenatal alcohol exposure and 1,000 to 4,000 with FAS. FAS is a permanent condition that causes one or more disabilities including problems with learning, memory, attention span, impulse control, communication, vision, and/or hearing; it affects every aspect of an individuals and their familys life. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a term that encompasses the range of potential adverse effects to the individual whose mother drank alcohol during that pregnancy. Pooling resources and efforts can make a strong message, together with a united site for information, support, and intervention as the problem is not just the children. This is a generational problem that has to stop. Statistically the children have a 90% chance of becoming alcoholic and/or drug dependent themselves if there is no intervention. Even with intervention it only drops down to 60%, so do the numbers. This is a problem of epic proportions. Please help me by helping raise funds, support our golf tournament, and connect us with others that can help. The Center for Disease Control, Mayo Clinic, March of Dimes, and the Surgeon General take this epidemic seriously, you should too. Thank You, Carolyn St.Clair
