Book Response

Every half term you are required to review a book that you have read. You
should include the following information:

Title

Author

Genre
• E.g. gothic, adventure, war, fantasy, sci-fi, realistic, teen fiction, horror,
romance, murder- mystery/ detective.

Story line
• A brief outline of what happens.

Characters
• Describe the main characters.
• Are they realistic (do they behave in the way ‘real’ people would in their
circumstances)?
• Are they stock characters or stereotypes (e.g. kind old granny, fat policeman,
young hooligan)?
• Do you like the characters?
• What is their importance in the story?

Themes
• What sort of ideas and issues does the story deal with (e.g. family life,
friendship, drugs, gangs, relationships etc)?
• What does the book make you think about?

Personal Response
• Think about why you enjoyed the book.
• State clearly and honestly how the book affected you.
• Could you identify with any of the characters and the situations in which they
found themselves?
• Have you learned anything from the book (e.g. about yourself, other people,
life in general)?
