(EFL) Students Encountered in Translating

News Headlines from Myanmar into English
Abstract

This study investigates difficulties that M.A.(EFL) students have when they translate
news headlines from Myanmar into English. In this study 20 students each from the two
batches of MA (EFL) are used as subjects. A test is designed with the news headlines
selected from Myanmar Times Journals and given to the M.A students in order to
translate them into English. Then the analysis is made on their translated versions based
on the translation theories. This study will reveal the difficulties and problems faced and
the translation strategies used by the students to overcome these difficulties when
translating the new headlines from Myanmar into English. It is hoped that this study will
contribute to the development of Translation Studies and give some suggestions and
recommendations for the translation teachers and students as well.
