Reflection #1

Without effective administration and supervision, no organization can survive or

prosper. Basically, school administration refers to planning, directing, organizing, and
controlling all available resources to achieve educational goals and objectives. While
supervision of any school ordinarily refers to the improvement of the total teaching and
learning situation and all the conditions that affect them by working with the people who are
working with the students.
During this challenging time of pandemic, we as a DepEd school administrators and
supervisors are tasked to be consistently abide with our mandate. Stipulated in Article XIV,
Section I of the Philippine Constitution that “The State shall protect and promote the right of
all citizens to quality education at all levels, and shall take appropriate steps to make such
education accessible to all.” In regards to this, Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan has
been formulated to continuously provide basic education while ensuring the health and
safety of our learners and school personnel. Various policies and programs were executed
for the learning delivery to happen according to the needs of the learners. However, in the
current year, we are not yet assure that the normal school learning context will return.
As an administrative supervisor we play a pivotal role in this matter. We need to wear
different hats; the planner, the problem-solver, the educator and the counselor. Thus, we
should have the skills to communicate with various people, handle budgets effectively, and
keep all educational programs running. Moreover, what we need to focus on is our school
community relations. It is crucial that we have the support and cooperation of all the persons
presents in our educational community. Involves in this are our stakeholders which are
basically our learners and parents. Effective school leaders build and sustain reciprocal
family and community partnerships and leverage those partnerships to cultivate inclusive,
caring and culturally responsive school communities. To build these community networks it
is essential that school leaders are visible in their schools and community, develop trust and
create a sense of transparency and shared purpose with parents, staff, community members
and students. Parents become supportive because the principal and teachers have built
trusting relationships with them.
In order to do that, we should be research-oriented and solution-driven leaders. For
instance, we must be equipped with all the platforms on sharing and communicating
information regarding the plans of our school in this coming limited face-to-face classes.
Undeniably, social media and other online application widens the number of people we are
trying to reach. We have the Facebook to involve our parents in a simple meeting or decision
making. But not all stakeholders have the access in technology. Then we should have
alternative plan for them.
Finally, as a supervisor we must remember that we are not running a one-man-show.
We are surrounded with great teachers and colleagues that must be train and cultivate their
leadership skills in this kind of situation.
