Presumptive president elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” E. Marcos, Jr.
naming Sara Duterte-Carpio, as the next Education (DepEd) Secretary and that the incoming vice president has agreed to take the helm of the Department of Education. “I asked Inday Sara if she can take on the job, considering that is difficult to head the Education Department, but she agreed.” Marcos said in a televised speech. Marcos said he is confident that Sara can perform best as the DepEd secretary as she is a “mother” who wants her “children to be well-trained and well-educated.” “That’s the best motivation that we can hope for” Marcos noted. Sara Duterte attended her bachelor’s degree at San Pedro College, Davao majoring in BS Respiratory Therapy. Duterte said she originally wanted to be a paediatrician instead of a politician and took up a law degree at the San Sebastian College – Recoletos. She then worked for a few months as a court attorney at the office of Supreme Court Associate Justice Romeo Callejo Sr and has no formal experience in education sector. It will be big challenge to her as the Education Secretary to address the problem of quality in basic education brought about the public health crisis.
