Title :The Use Of Story Mapping On Students’ Reading Comprehension


At First Grade Students Of Sman 1 Rajagaluh

Story mapping is a technique used to make students to read a story easily and improve
readong ability of students by making groups discussion. The use of story mapping on
students’ reading comprehension can improve students reading skill. The method of this
study was experimental research. The population of this study was given to furst grade
students of sman 1 rajagaluh in the academic 2018/2019. The sample is two class, X MIPA 6
which consists of 35 student as experimental class and X MIPA 5 which consists of 35
students as control class. The data were obtained by questionare of students response and test
(pre-test and post-test). Based on the result of questionaire showed that there was a difference
between the before they got treatment and after they got treatment. The students’ ability in
comprehending the text much better especially in narrative text. The result of the test that was
analyzed by using t-test formula. In the pre-test, the mean score of the experimental class was
60 and the control class was 49,1. The mean score of the post-test of experimental class was
83,9 while control class was 63,4. Based on the calculation of t-test, it showed that taccount was
2.112 and ttable was 1.995 with df 68, significant level 0.05 (5%). It means that taccount was
higher than ttable (2.112 > 1.995). the null hypothesis H0 was rejected and the research
hypotehsis Ha was accepted. It could be concluded that Story Mapping was effective in
teaching reading comprehension to first grade student of SMAN 1 Rajagaluh.
