MATERIAL SPECIFICATION 30,191-00

MATERIAL:

This specification covers interstitial free steel sheet. The steel shall be melted by basic open hearth,
basic oxygen or basic electric furnace process and shall be vacuum degassed or vacuum decarbur-
ized. It shall be manufactured from hot rolled and pickled sheet by cold reducing to ordered thick-
ness.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Severely deep drawn or formed parts such as stamped steel oil pans.

CHEMICAL ANALYSIS:

Carbon 0.02% Maximum


Manganese 0.60% Maximum
Phosphorus 0.025% Maximum
Sulfur 0.035% Maximum
Nitrogen Residual (0.004% Typical)
Aluminum 0.015% Minimum
Columbian 0.03 - 0.06%
Titanium 0.04 - 0.06%

HEAT TREATMENT:

The material shall be supplied in the cold rolled and annealed condition.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES:
The tensile properties shall be:

Tensile strength 45,000 psi (310 MPa) Minimum


Yield strength 22,000 psi (152 MPa) Minimum
Elongation in 2" (50mm) 44% Minimum

MICROSTRUCTURE:

The material shall be fine grain, size 8 to 10, as determined in accordance with ASTM E112.

QUALITY:

The material shall be commercially free from seams, laps, segregation laminations and other de-
fects detrimental to fabrication, appearance or performance of the part.
