We now have 2936 young ones on campus. Our new playgroup is an absolute personal delight to me so are the hours spent in the company of our very many teenagers. Thave, however, witnessed an aggres teenager. Students no longer enjoy games or pursue hobbies of any kind, Friendships with peers are dwindling, Tuitions, studies and stress have taken over the lives of somany. More colleges that impart good education are required. Our youth is hardworking, intelligent and dedicated. Their educational and career requirements must be metby our government. Here [would like to tell ourstudents to please take out one hour of their time for their friends, their families, recreation, exercise and prayers. They need to develop hobbies that will sustain them later in life's journey. To all adults reading this editorial, please be careful of the words you use, Use negative words with caution; the results of negative words can be long-lasting and destructive, especially on young minds Use positive thoughts and words to enhance the behaviour of those around you. First] would like to welcome our Chief Guest, Dr.S. Farooq, I do not think he needs any introduction for the people of Dehradun look upon him as a treasure of our capital. He is the President of the Himalaya Drag Company. He has published some 200 papers in national and international journals and chaired many conferences. He is the Chief Author of "555 Medicinal Plants”, “101 Herbal Remedies for Cough and Cold” anda biography of his Father. In the Independence Day Essay Competition held at Police Lines, where many Schools participated, 3. St. Jude's School was the clear winner in the Folk Dance category (here I must say we have a very talented Dance Teacher andall credit goes to her). 5. In the Macmilan NSW Competition, Megha Goel and Vinayak Sharma of Class VIII scored the highest in Science. Shreyansh V. Singh of Class VI scored the highest in Maths. 6. Ashmita Sinha (90%) While we are very particular about our students’ excellence in academics we know that education means intellectual, emotional, cultural and social development of aperson. We lay great stress on Games - we have the Annual Sports Day where our children strive to do their best for themselvesand their Houses. ur school teams participate in the Inter-School basketball, cricket, football, badminton and athletics. Wesend our teams for the District Games as well. (Our Senior students are taken to Raphael Home and Old peoples’ home to prepare them for the life where they have to be compassionate and caring human beings. During Dusshera holidays a group of students went ‘onan excursion to Delhiand Rajasthan We lay great stress on environmental studies. We have started a project where the students are surveying why our mighty rivers turn into mere streams. We encourage the children to understand the lives of all living things -birds and animalsand tocare forthem. We are also planning to start a programme with the help of Maxmind India for faster calculations, better memory power, better concentration, high confidence, high-speed reading and writing with accuracy. For this Annual Speech Day 375 children are being, given prizes; the little ones - from Nursery to Class V ~ were given prizes a day before as we could not accommodate them all in the hall. I would like to congratulate the Teachers/Parents and students for their Awards. STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS: I would like to congratulate each staff member for his/her contribution. They try to achieve the objectives of our education through the pursuit of appropriate curricular syllabuses for developing individual talents in games, sportsand cultural activities. They have worked hard to inculcate the spirit of leadership and self disciplinein students. St. Jude's School, along with twenty one other Schools of ISC and CBSE Boards, participated in the Quiz. Five students of SJS participated in the competition under the guidance of Mr. Tribhuvan Singh. Questions were asked from different fields such asHistory, Geography, Current Affairsand Science The marks scored by the participants (out of 150) wereasfollows:- 1. NehamTayal 118 2. It not only increases cognitive skills but also teaches the value of hard work, concentration and commitment On 2nd August, 2009, SJS participated in the Inter- School Chess Tournament hosted by The Doon School, Dehradun. The tournament was on open tournament in which ten schools participated. They were the Indian Public School, Summer Valley School, St. Jude's School Selaqui World School, Ann Mary School, Brightlands School, The Doon School, Constancia School, Cambrian Hall and Welham Boys’ School. St. Jude's School was represented by Bhanu Pratap Singh Aswal and Ishan Rayal of XLSc-A. It was a tough competition of wits. Boys of SJS reached the Semi-Finals after competing with various schools. However, SJS lost to The Doon School in this raging battle of intellect and Brightlands School emerged as the ultimate winner. 3. MuditKhansili 99 AngadSingh 97 5. ShubhamPal 88 Neham Tayal secured the second position in the competition. He received a prize of Rs, 2500 and a trophy from Colonel BS, Rawat (Retd.) who was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony. Various patriotic songs and plays were organized by the students of Doon Defence Academy. Maintaining the same ritual from 4th to 7th of August, 2008, English Flocution competition was conducted for the Junior School children. The children made efforts to learn the poems and to be able to recite them confidently. The students’ hard work was appreciated and applauded by our judges Mrs. V.R. Gardner (Principal), Mrs. S. Students were told to work in groups of four, and they were to research various topics and create a presentation by way of computer graphics. ‘The contest aimed at allowing students to work together. It aimed at allowing students to conduct research and create their own five-minutes slide shows, The topics that were given tothe schools wereas follows: a. One day we will live as one... The Quiz was complete with audio-visuals and a variety of questions on different topics and fields. Mr. Deepak Ahuja put the Quiz together and was wonderful as the Master of Ceremonies. Teachers’ Day is celebrated with lots of zeal and enthusiasm all over India on the 5th of September. So is the case with usat St Jude's School. ‘The celebration started with a variety entertainment programme. A teacher provides the gateway through which a child enters and brings glory for himself and to the country. Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of late Presicient Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who himself was a renowned teacher. On this day, students honour their teachersand express their loveand gratitude. Every year Teachers’ Day is celebrated at SJS with great vigourand joy. ‘This year, as soon as the teachers entered the Jonty auditorium, they were greeted with flowers and songs. ‘The opening act was a group song followed by a beautiful dance performance by the girls of Classes X and XI. An English and a Hindi song number came next and was followed by a scintillating dance sequence which was the limelight of the event, and lastly an exhilarating play was put up by thestudents of Class XII which was appreciated by everyone.
