log-in button at the top of the screen.

2
Sharing Individual Model FilesHow do I share a model file?

First make sure that the person you are trying to share the model with has a VisualLive account
(trial or paid).

In the Model Files tab, find the model that you wish to share with someone and select the button
“Share” on the far right.

Enter their user account name (this option is case-sensitive) and they will have the model sent
to their account.

Note: The model will be available within the applications even if the model is not visible in the
shared account’s Web Portal.

Why would I share a model file? If you are working in VisualLive with co-workers, there is no
need to have each individual push the same model. The Share feature allows you to quickly
view the same models on your different accounts (although the shared model cannot be edited
on the accounts it was shared to).

Visualization Features

Measurement

What can it do?

Measurement can determine distances between virtual models and existing structures.

How to use it?

Tap Measurement to enter measuring mode. Select ‘Start Measuring’ and you can now select
two points to measure between.

What else can I do with it? Measurement allows you to change units and have options to
better accurately measure models and your environment.

Unit: This tool allows you to change your unit between feet and inches, decimal feet, or meters.
If you already have some distances measured out, changing the units will update them in real
time.

Snap: This tool can toggle the ability to line up your measuring tool exactly to sharp
edges/corners on the models or the environment. If you are trying to snap to the environment
(not a model), this tool will attempt to snap to the vertices of the scan mesh (which may not be
exactly accurate).

Perpendicular:This tool will create another measure line that is perpendicular to the surface
that is already selected or to the surface that the cursor is currently hovering over.

Layers

What can it do?

Layers can let you turn on and off the visibility of differently grouped objects.

How to use it?

Open up the layers menu and tap the sun icon next to each layer to toggle visibility.

How do I set up my layers? You will need to read the ‘VL Plugin User Guide’ in order to learn
how to push layers. It is a different set up depending on if you are using Navisworks or Revit.

8
Save Alignment

What is it? Changes the location of the virtual VL Marker in order to line it up with the physical
VL Marker.

How?
● Scan physical VL Marker in different location from where the virtual VL Marker is
● Confirm placement of virtual VL marker (adjust the model using the alignment tools)
● Scan the physical marker again. A new prompt should show up called ‘Save Alignment’
● Select the button ‘Save Alignment’ and the virtual marker will relocate to the physical marker’s
position

9
Collaboration Features
These features need a Pro paid license in order to access them
Make sure to connect your account to a cloud service within the Plugin before using these features

Issue Capturing

What is it?
Issue Capturing will let you take screenshots that you can upload to the cloud. Send them to
Google Drive or OneDrive for Business to bring them back into Navisworks as viewpoints. Send
them to BIM360 or ProCore as either an observation, RFI, or punch list.

How?
● Select the Issue Capture Icon.
● Tap ‘Start Capturing’ to enable screenshots to be taken.
● Clicking ‘Take Picture’ will take a picture and let you upload it.
● A pop up will appear to select where you would like to upload it.
● Tap the ‘annotate’ icon marked by a pencil and paper to draw notes onto the image.

Progress Tracking
This tool’s icon may say ‘Status Tracking’

What is it? Progress Tracking tracks model pieces that have been installed or not installed in
the real world.

How?
● Clickable Model Objects must be enabled. Airtap the alignment button to open the
Clickable Model Objects menu pop-up
● Start Tracking- Allows you to start selecting which parts of the model have been recently
installed at your site

spreadsheet. Changes the visual information to now show what has been ‘previously
installed’

How to tell what has been installed?

In the Progress Tracking menu, models will be color-coded:

● Installed: These model pieces will be green
● Not Installed: These model pieces will be orange

10
What else can it do?

Custom Status: It is possible to create a custom status other than ‘Installed’ and ‘Not Installed’
within the Progress Tracking tool. In order to create a custom status:
● Select ‘Create New’
● Enter a name and color for this new status
● Select ‘Create’

Now you can tap on model objects to label them as the new status.

Statistics: It is possible to view different statistics of the model. Linear footage is automatically
tracked however, there is a drop down option for statistics. This will show any
properties/metadata that were pushed with the model.

For example; if there is a property named “Planks” and an object is marked with a numerical
value for that property, then Install Tracking will show the total value of installed “Planks”.

Pie Chart: A Pie Chart is available within Progress Tracking to better represent the completed
installations of the model versus the not completed installations of the model. The Pie Chart will
also accurately show the percentage of a custom status that was created.

Total Installed: This tells you how much of the total model is already installed based on the
number of model pieces that have been registered as installed.

11

Navigate Mode
View the slider at the top to see which mode you are in

This section of the user guide will describe all of the features available in NAV mode only. That will be all
of the icons on the left-hand side of the screen as well as anything within the settings.

What is it? Navigation mode is used to virtually see the model as you would in Navisworks or
Revit.

Why? It is useful for review when you are not able to get on location as well as allows a general
overview of the model.

Placing the model

How does it work? Navigation Mode will always load you at the location of your first VL Marker
or Point. If you have neither, it will put you into the center of the model.

Camera Modes
Change the different speeds for camera or walking movement within Settings. Click on the ‘Mode’ icon to
switch between the different options.

First Person Mode

This mode has two different ways to move around the model

● First Option - Move your thumbs at the bottom corners of your device to move the ‘joysticks’.
The farthest left corner is to move around and the farthest right corner is look around (move the
camera). The left ‘joystick’ allows you to float up and down.

fingers to drag the camera up, down, left or right. Expand your index finger and your thumb from
a central point to zoom in.

Third Person Mode

This mode has only one way to move around the model

How to move? Move your thumbs at the bottom corners of your device to move the ‘joysticks’.
The farthest left corner is to move around and the farthest right corner is to look around (move
the camera). The left ‘joystick’ allows you to float up and down

Reset Position

12
What is it? Places the user back to the first VL Marker or Point that they have in the model

Mini-Map

What is it? The Mini-Map allows you to view your model from a top down view to keep better
track of where you are in the model as well as teleport easily to a part of the model.

How does it work?

● In the top-right, open the map icon

● You will be able to view ‘Manny’ from above as you walk around
● Alternatively, if you expand the Mini-Map, you can tap on the bottom button marked ‘teleport’ and
Manny will teleport to the location in the model where you then tap next.
● Tap on the map icon again to shrink the map. Tap on it again to close.

Switching to AR Mode

How? At the top of the screen, there is a slider that should currently say Navigate. Slide it to the
left and it will switch to ‘AR Mode’.

13

AR Mode
View the slider at the top to see which mode you are in

This section of the user guide will describe all of the features available in AR mode. That will include all of
the icons on the left-hand side of the screen as well as anything within the settings. It will also go over
scanning and what to keep in mind as soon as AR mode is opened.

Mapping the area

Radial load bar

What is it? Determines whether the area has been properly scanned enough for a stable
model. Scanning is needed to keep the model from drifting while walking around.

How is a good scan determined? Scanning takes into account the lighting and contrast of the
area around you, in order to determine what is a wall, floor, or object.

Note: Make sure to scan your entire area before placing your model

Scanning Complete

What is it? The button to ‘Place Model’ will turn green in the middle of the device when you
have reached the minimum amount needed to be scanned.

Points

What is it? White dots will be visible while scanning your area. These dots are called Feature
Points and are points where the camera is letting you know that it can ‘see’ something there.

How do I know the scan is good? At the bottom right of the radial loading bar, the device will
tell you how many points you have visible on your screen. The best areas are going to have
more points on the screen at a time.

How do I know the scan is bad? A bad scan or a bad area is going to have very few points in
any given area. If you are unable to get any points to show up on some surfaces, then those
areas should be avoided if possible.

14
Placing the model

Marker Scan

How?
● Place your physical VL Marker at the proper location
● Select ‘Marker Scan’ from the placement pop-up

your model. It works similar to Two-Point Placement.

How?
● Select Two-Point Alignment from the Toolkit menu
● Choose the first set of points on your model (The first point is the placement and the second is
rotation)
● Choose the second set of points in reality and confirm alignment (The first point is the placement
and the second is rotation)

Note: Keep in mind that mobile devices’ cameras have difficulty with depth perception so it is
important to get near the points when placing them and checking them at all angles

X-Ray

What is it? This allows you to make your model transparent.

How?
● The left menu, under the Toolkit icon the X-Ray icon is indicated with an ‘eye’.
● This will open a transparency slider and a ‘reset’ button.
● Move the slider to change the transparency of the model

Distance Filtering

What is it? This decides the distance that the model stops rendering at.

What is it used for? To create a more efficient experience (free of lag or stutters). Stopping the
distance that a model renders makes it easier for the device to load what’s in front of you and makes it
easier to understand what’s right in front of you.

Settings

Why is Settings at the bottom of the User Guide? The Settings change depending on the
view method that is being used in MobiLive. For this reason, the settings change too often to
place after each chapter in this User Guide.

Settings in NAV mode

1st Person Mode - When in this mode, the settings contain a check box for Collison, an FOV
(Field of View) slider, Height slider and a Speed slider.

● Collision will determine whether the camera is unable to pass through models. Unselecting
collision allows the camera to pass through models.

● FOV changes how far the camera is able to see around it. Sliding it to the right, allows more of
the model to become visible all at once.

● The Height slider changes the height of the camera.

● The Speed slider changes how fast the camera moves (looking and moving around).

3rd Person Mode - When in this mode, the settings contain a Gravity check box, a Collision
check box, a Camera Speed slider, a Height slider and a Walk Speed slider.

18
● The Gravity and Collisions will work together in this mode as in order to turn on Gravity you must
have Collisions on. Collision will either block/allow Manny from moving through walls or floors
depending on if it is active. Gravity enables Manny to walk up and down stairs and walk on the
ground/floor.

● Camera Speed changes how fast you can rotate with the camera.

● Height changes the scale of ‘Manny’ measured in feet.

● Walking speed changes how fast ‘Manny’ travels.

Settings in AR mode

Make Clickable - This setting allows you to select each model piece individually. It is useful for
models with properties.

Overlay Reality - This setting allows you to see the scanning information again to see your
mesh and points.

Sync Model

What is it?
Allows models to be downloaded to the device. In order to sync a model, an internet connection
is needed initially but once the model is downloaded, the model can be loaded again without
internet connection.

How?
● Choose a model on the Load Menu
● Select ‘Sync’ on the right side of the menu
● Wait for it to download
● In the top of the Load Menu, the Sync Folder now holds that model

Quick Scan
For VL Markers

What is it?
A quicker, easier way to load and place a model with one step

How?
● Have a printed VL marker placed
● Select the ‘Scan QR code’ icon beside the ‘Load’ button

19
● Scan the VL marker
